I went to Malta in march of this year on a field trip as part of my Tourism course with University. There were 44 girls and 7 lads and i don think Malta quite knew quite knew what had hit them!! The flight took about three hours and was very pleasant with some spectacular views from the plane window.
We stayed at The Topaz Hotel in Bugibba ,which was a four star hotel. We all shared rooms and the rooms were very spacious and comfortable and ours had a balcony which overlooked the pool . The hotel had lots of facilities including two restaurants ,indoor and outdoor pool ,shop ,sauna, and much more. The hotel was situated about ten minutes walk away from the town of Bugibba , which is a popular resort for many tourists. It had a multitude of bars, restaurants and cafes as well as some great shops. some of the places were closed though as they only open in the peak season., however many people choose not to go in august as the weather in Malta is too hot.
We got to visit many places in Malta including Valetta (i really enjoyed visiting Valetta as it is full of history and there are lots of museums and places of interest) , Mdina , St.Julians -great for nightlife) .
I found the Maltese people to be really friendly and helpful and the food there was amazing - though i dont think ill try squid again due to an unfortunate stomach upset i gained from eating it!I found the prices of things to be reasonable and some cheaper than in England - I managed to buy two pairs of designer jeans for the equivalent of 15 pounds. Alot of people on my course said they thought Malta was too quiet and uninteresting but i think they were the type of people who were used to the typical package holidays and were only there for the nightlife. There is some spectiacular scenery and breathtaking views . Malta is where some of the scenes for the film Troy were filmed and when i watched the movie i recognised some of the places i visited!
Malta is definetly a place i would go again, i had a great experience and have lots of great photos !
I think you need more than a week there to get the most out of the destination.
