I love Australia and one of the nices Cities is Melbourne. I fell in love with it on my first visit 30 years ago then in the last year I went over to Melbourne again on a visit and I still got the same type of Buzz which I got all those years earlier.
Melbourne is a major centre of Commerce, Indusrt and Cultural Activity. There are a great variety of buildings Victorian as well as Modern.
The climate is very similar to ours in the South East of England. You often can experience 4 Seasons in one day.
It is very easy to get around particularly if you are a Tourist. They have a City Tourist Shuttle which takes you around the Top Attractions which you would like to see if you were a visitor. There are 15 stops so you can get on and off them when ever you wanted to. The other plus factor is it will not cost you anything as it is a free service.
There are many parks and gardens to visit and the one I like the best is Fitzroy gardens, this is where Cook's Cottage is. This is an 18TH century building. This was originally built in Yorkshire, England then transported to Australia in 1933. This garden is ideally placed as it is close to Melbournes CBD. The gardens boundaries are Wellington Parade, Clarendon Street, Albert Street.
The ideal way to see all the other historic attractions as well as Cook's Cottage is to purchase a Melbourne Heritage Pass and this will enable you to visit the Old Melbourne Gaol and Como House as well. These passes can be obtained by visiting the Melbourne Visitor's Centre which is located at Federation Square.
There is plenty to see but these are only a handful of attractions to see and what I like about it is it does not cost a fortune.

Advantages: cosmopolitan; great dining, arts and sports scene; prettiest city in Oz Disadvantages: not very many at all - perhaps some unsafe areas at night, but only if you're alone
