Advantages Advantages Underexplored, Stunning scenery, cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages dangerous, difficult travel conditions

Mozambique is one of the poorest nations on earth and has been through the destruction of a civil war. The result, as the country has opened up to tourism and holiday makers is that it is dirt cheap, underdeveloped, ehchanting, beautiful, tranquil and dangerous. I explored Mozambique with backpack. Well appointed hotels and organised tours are near non-existant and Mozambique is a country which needs to be explored rather than simply visited. The language is Portugese and very, very few locals speak anything else. You can get buy with a reasonable level of Spanish, but it would be well worth ... more

Advantages Advantages Friendly people, great diving and lost of nothing to do!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lost of nothing to do if you aren't into diving, vegetating and socializing

As a keen diver we frequent Ponta do Oura and Ponta Molangane in Mozambique on a regular basis. Although there are “better” diving spots in Mozambique, if you’re looking for value for money accommodation, good service and a pleasant diving experience, Ponta do Oura and Ponta Molangane are the places to go. Currency and exchange The South African Rand is a readily accepted form of payment and this can be very useful when purchasing local art and other trinkets to take home with you. (I will explain later) Don’t expect to be able to use your credit card to buy or draw money from a cash machine ... more

Advantages Advantages Fabulous country, nice people, great beaches

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not a good place to be a chicken

This is the story of one morning in Mocambique and one small experience of this country that stuck in my mind. It's just an experience - not a country review so please be kind when you rate me - I'm just telling a traveller's tale that summed up for me some of the experience of travelling in this country. CIRCUMSTANCES ********************** We were travelling with The Adventure Company (previously known as Travelbag Adventures) last July on a two week trip to South Africa, Swaziland and Mocambique. This is one of the few companies I could find with an itinerary of this type. The trip is ... more

Advantages Advantages Lovely Country and surrounding area

Disadvantages Disadvantages need to research the trip well

I recently went to Mozambique more by accident than anything else and was amazed by the vibrancy of a country recovering from a civil war. There is a hope and optimism than is contagious. This allied to a lovely natural country make it a fantastic place to stay. Short drives to the Kruger National Park in South Africa and to Swaziland make Maputo a great base for discovering the southeast of Africa. There are still some troubles in the area so read up before you go and make sure you have your injections!! ... more

    Advantages Advantages Amaizingly beautiful

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very hot in summer time and the language

We've been living in Mozambique for the last 10 years and I can honestly say that it has been the best years of my life. Being an expat in this country is not always easy since you have to be careful with the police and some of the locals always trying to get something for free. When we first arrived here from Johannesburg I was scared and worried and I thought to myself, "my gosh what were you thinking", making this place your home. But amazingly, after a very short period of time things changed and Mozambique started to grow on me. We have our odd frustrations such as working with "Africa ... more
