General: New York State

I look back on my first trip to New York in March 2003 and wonder how could I have then had such a wrong-footed opinion of Manhattan. New York City centre of the universe!!! That is what some people will let you think - I was initially bitterly disappointed back in 2003 but having just taken my fourth week long visit I have not only understand Manhattan but have taken this amazing city to my heart, one day I will have to live there. And so the journey began… Stansted airport was our first destination, we were lucky enough to book the trip just as the American airline Continental started to fly to Newark New York. Perfect for us as we only live 20 minutes from Stansted. Check in was very easy, just slightly different from normal as you had to clear security first. Then before I knew it we were in the air. The stewardesses were extremely hospitable and were falling over themselves to make you comfortable. I grew up in New York in a little dairy farming community about an hour away from the capital city of Albany were I was born. In high school I had pen pals by snail mail and every single one would ask how close it was to New York City like it was the only place in the state. There is so much more to the state than the city or I should say group of cities.
