I can't speak as a tourist , but i have speak of the experience of living in Romaina for 2.5 years, in the City of Timisoara.

The peoples hospitality and open nature made my time there unforgettable experience.
i am not going to say all was great there, but i am sure if you visit this great country you will find that the people are warm friendly . This country should be famous for the people and the beauty that lays hidden.

I visited alot of different areas whilst i lived there.

i remember driving to a area called Herculane, i think that means the land of the gods.
This is a Natural Spa area , with hot springs and sulphar baths. i Remember feeling like i was in heaven , all was so peaceful and felt so relaxed , as soon as i stepped out the car.
The landscape and scenary also , felt not real , it all felt a little i was dreaming.
That was such a relaxing break.

Besides these well-defined tourist areas, in Romania there are many other tourist centres, towns and spas.
They include Iasi (the former capital of Moldavia), Cluj-Napoca (i think this close to the mediaeval Transylvania),
Timisoara this is where i was living and working (the multiethnic and multicultural metropolis of the Banat), Târgoviste (the princely residence of Wallachia, before Bucharest replaced it)- that phrase was how it was described, i would describe it as a city on the border of europe that is has a large young and modern population , this city is bordered close to Arad (this city is directly on the borders of Hungary)and is within close driving distance to Serbia. this town is host to sereral univercitys.

Brasov, Sibiu, Sighisoara etc.
I have only been to Brasov on work related activites , but i believe has some exceptional ski resorts in the area.
The Danube riverside with the Iron Gates Straits, the Fagaras Massif (with the most spectacular alpine relief in Romania, you really have to see this to get an good aprecitaion, as words do it no justice ) or the Retezat National Park in the Southern Carpathians , i was never lucky enough to go here but i have heard it is worth a visit.

If you do intend on visting , try to talk a few words of romainain, they may smile , but you will make their day if you at least try to speak a few words.

I recommed you buy a tour book , and it might be helpful if you know somethere.

My last tip is the may find the food odd , but try eat it , hosts may get offend if you don't eat their food.
