I'm really only able to talk about the main island, Mahe, because that’s the only island I've been to. Mahe is the only Seychelles island with an airport but there are many boat rides available to get to the others such as Praslin and La Digue. The main town on Mahe is called Victoria. There are a variety of shops there including a supermarket, craft shops and food places. All the utility headquarters are here including embassies. Victoria is really the only place in Mahe to buy stuff as the local shops are like your everyday newsagents. Unfortunately products are rather expensive because at the moment there are severe shortages in the country. You can find your typical souvenir shops in Victoria except that many of the products look a lot nicer that the usual tat you find in these kinds of shops. Many things are hand made and the more you see of one product the cheaper it is. There is a huge market, which sells every kind of fish available and is fish lovers dream market. As there is a surplus of fish it means that they can be bought at very reasonable prices. Beware though that if you plan on bringing it back home then you must also buy special packaging to make sure they arrive safely. It is very hard to get lost as there aren’t many roads and everything is signposted clearly
One of the best beaches in Seychelles is Beau Vallon. It is the most beautiful stretch of sand I’ve ever seen and is even more lovely at night when you see the moonlight glinting on the sea. It is also where the biggest hotel resort is. The hotels can be quite expensive at peak seasons but are worth it for the level of service you get. You won’t experience any of the problems currently affecting Seychelles right now as the government granted hotels immunity from things like on being able to shower at certain times due to the water shortage. Hotels and restaurants cook a variety of foods from all over the world and they won’t get offended if you ask for ketchup on your food! The service is excellent as everyone is eager to please and they also want you to return their establishment. Across Mahe there is also a number of smaller self-catering chalets, which is situated in residential areas. With a good map it would be very hard to get lost and roads are well built (possibly better then England!).
The people of Seychelles are so friendly and always smiling that it might scare us Britons as we’re not used to strangers being nice to us. Most people speak good English due to the high standards taught in schools. The scenery is breath taking and would present perfect photo opportunities. Although it is not as touristy as other countries there is lots to discover if you are prepared to put in the effort. I would recommend the botanical gardens as they house amongst other things giant tortoises, which are the most beautiful creatures. Crime is virtually non-existent and as there aren’t as many cars on the road as other countries. The airfare can be extremely high at peak times-approx £1000 for August, which doesn’t include board and food. For those who don’t have family there I would say you should book a package deal, as it will work out cheaper. The water is very clean and no injections are needed although you should pack plenty of mosquito repellent. This would be the perfect place to bring children, as it is one of the least dangerous countries on the world. Activity workers are usually qualified so if you’re bringing children then only use qualified people. I would thoroughly recommend visiting Seychelles, as you would truly have the best time of your life there.
Advantages: weather, scenery, relaxing pace Disadvantages: not really for teenagers, very pricey
I visited the Seychelles with my family a couple of years ago. It is the closest I have ever come to my idea of 'real paradise' and I recommend it to anyone that wants to experience gorgeous beaches, turcquiose water and breathtaking scenery. Being a teenager in Seychelles has its disadvantages. There is little to no nightlife and activities on the islands are minimal. We stayed on the largest island, Mahe, and activity was generally confined to ... ...way to spend a holiday, but it can get tedious after a couple of weeks. We booked a tour around the whole island with a private driver and it was fascinating. He took us to see the most stunning sights - curved rocks stretching out to a deep blue sea. We also took a trip to the capital and experienced a shopping trip to a spice market and several main shopping streets. But the activity, even here, was very limited. It had the permanent atmosphere ...

Advantages: Romantic, beautiful and unbusy Disadvantages: Pricey
If you're looking for a great honeymoon destination - I couldn't recommend the Seychelles more. The best islands are pobably La Digue, Praslin and (if you can afford it) Fregate. Mahe - where the international airport is - is OK. The interior jungles are interesting and Anse Intendance on the south is a great beach (watch out for waves). Praslin is smaller and very pretty - the Vallee de Mai is stunning. La Digue is a good size and nice to cycle ...

Advantages: white sands, beautiful scenery, peaceful. Disadvantages: expensive, not the med, boring
Writing from a different perspective, I went to the Seychelles as an older teenager for 1 month. I found the scenery and the beaches beautiful, and there are all the usual tourist activities, e.g - banana boat, paragliding. But after a few weeks if you can only afford to stay on Mahe (the main island) it can become a little boring. Although I had two friends with me and many of my relatives live there, this island is mainly suited to either couples, ... ...choice of goods, services and entertainment, but if what your looking for is somewhere to get away from western culture then this is the place to go. If you have the financial resources to travel to outlaying islands this makes the holiday much more interesting, because although you are going even further away from the 'civilised' world, you start to appreciate more what is here. The boat, or plane journeys to where you are going are in itself a ...

I visited the seychelles with my husband and family. The holiday had been built up beyond belief as his family had been there twice before about 15 years ago, and had gained a somewhat legondary status! We stayed on the main island Mahe, but also visited Praslin and La Digue. Mahe had changed a lot, and the hotel that we stayed in (The Berjaya Mahé Beach Resort) was not the best choice on relection, however it has arguably the best location, with ... ...experience as rough a tide as other parts of the island. I still wouldnt recommend staying here, the standards are not as high as other hotels. la Digue island lodge was the most amazing place I have ever been too and I would highly recommend that! The location is amazing, the view incredible and the beach huts that we stayed in were gorgeous. One thing that was very odd was the currency, we weren't able to take any currency with us, and on arrival ...

run by a lovely British lady, so you don't need fluent French for the dive briefing, and also Big Blue further up the beach at Vacoa Village, Mare Anglaise (www.bigbluedivers.net). Dives cost from about SR150 for short range, including equipment hire. I undertook my rescue course whilst on Mahe, and from my experience and that of other people I spoke to, I would say the general standard of teaching is not as thorough as in other countries. Make sure that you know how to check your own BCD and regs properly, because I have known several experienced divers who have met sticky situations diving commercially in Seychelles. Most of the equipment is imported from the US at great expense, so it is definitely made to fulfil more than its natural lifespan. Also this means a lot of the gauges are imperial, so if like me you learnt in metric, this ...
