I know Singapore very well since I was born in the Southern Malaysian town of Johore Bahru, which is just a hop across the causeway which separates Malaysia and the Island Republic.
There is no doubt that Singapore's urban environment is impressive - it is a sqeaky clean place,no litter to be seen, even the chewing of gum is banned here.Possessing such a clean environment has meant a high degree of social control.
It is an efficiently run Island city state which offers a lot of sights for the visitor to explore. Firstly, there is the opportunity to "shop til you drop" in the numerous one stop shopping complexes in the Orchard Road tourist belt. You can shop for exotic items in the likes of "Little India",great for silks, saris, textiles, spices and brassware, Chinatown and Arab Street, all these ethnic enclaves are well worth a visit.
Singapore is a good place to eat out. There are numerous Western,Japanese,Thai,Chinese,Malay,Indian and American stylerestaurants and for local hawker food, try the stalls at Newton Circus.
I would recommend a visit to the island of Sentosa,a good place for a fun day out,a visit to the botanical gardens is a pleasant excursion, and if you enjoy horse racing make a beeline for the Bukit Timah race course. For something unusual the figures of Chinese mythology at the Haw Par Villas may interest you. There are several theme parks on the Island ,including the Ming Village,if they are your "cup of tea."
Singapore may be small but it certainly is a "Mighty Midget" as a trip to this Island Republic at the heart of South east Asia would soon demonstrate. Do check it out !

I liked your opinion, but it's a pity you didn't say more as you must have a great deal of 'local' knowledge. I lived and worked in Singapore for 3 years so agree about the 'social control'.
