The Island Republic of Singapore is one of Asia's multi-racial melting pots,so it should not come as a surprise to learn that the dining out opportunities here are extremely diverse.You can really "eat to your heart's content" in this city state and at prices which by international standards are reasonable,although not as cheap as Malaysia,Thailand or Indonesia.

All the varied Asian cuisines compete in the battle for the taste buds of the Singaporean - Malay/Indonesian,Chinese,Indian,Thai,Japanese,Korean, and Nonya.The British were in Singapore for 150 years so Western food is also readily attainable here as well.

All the main regional Chinese cooking styles - Hokkien,Cantonese,Peking, Teochew,and Shanghai-can be savoured and great dishes include the likes of dim sum,fried Hokkien mee, Hainanese chicken rice, Peking duck and steamboat.The Malay food in the Island Republic is an eclectic blend combining the cooking methods of the Thais,the Malaysians and the Indonesians. Must try dishes include Satay,Beef rendang,Mee goreng and Nasi padang.Indian food is widely available but head to "Little Inia" for the best curries in town. Then there is Nonya (or Peranakan)foodwhich combines Chinese,Malay and other influences into its very own unique blend. Try Otak-otak, Buak keluak and the Nonya cakes.

Singapore is also renowned for its seafood such as Barbecued stingray, Black Pepper crab, Deep-Fried squid and Garlic prawns. Best location for seafood-I would suggest the restaurants along the East Coast Parkway.The Island is also home to a considerable number of Thai,Vietnamese,Japanese,Korean and Mongolian restaurants whilst within the popular eating centres of Holland Village,Boat Quay,Clarke Quay and in the tourist belt of Orchard Road,you will find English,French,Mexican Italian, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern eateries galore.
