What a fantastic place Sri Lanka is, everything you could want from a holiday with such a variety of things to do and see. Anyway I'm just reporting on the hotel we stayed at in beruwela, the Club Palm Garden. I have to say it was 'fit for purpose', I know it was only a 3 star. It was quite a small hotel, had a lot going on for kids with the animacion team (there were quite a lot of kids there). It did pretty much what the brochure said, although quite a basic hotel, no extras in the room like TV, hairdryer, or safe and the rooms were quite dark. The food choice was also fairly limited, I suppose due to the fact it was a small hotel but we did find enough to eat and drink and the quality was good. The rooms were cleaned regularly, they came and turned the beds down every evening and plugged in the bug killer and the staff were always polite and friendly. the hotel was literally right on the beach but as soon as you ventured onto the beach you were pounced on by touts selling trips/sarongs etc which wasn't too much bother, also the sea was very rough so most people tended to spend the time by the pool, so no problem at all. we did take a trip for 3 days/2nights staying in Haberana and Kandy which was fantastic taking in all the sights, elephants, buddist temples, ancient fortresses, tea plantations etc the hotels we stayed in were first class, they would have been at least 4 star perhaps equivalent to 5 star here so I guess that spoiled us for when we got back 'home' to beruwela. We also later visited a turtle hatchery south of beruwela in bentota, which was well worth a visit as you get to hold the 1 and 2 day old turtles, the 4 year olds and if you time it right you can release the 3 day old turtles back into the sea. So all in all a fantastic place to visit.

Advantages: Keep this in mind next time an evil tortoise threatens YOUR village Disadvantages: Not one for the big tour groups - this place is tiny inside
