We took a great holiday in Switzerland two years ago. We flew to Zurich and hired a car, which we drove down to Interlaken.
Interlaken is not a large place, in fact its pretty small. It is quite picturesque, but has been spoiled by some pretty nasty 1960's architecture, which is a great shame.
We stayed in a very traditional chalet style family run hotel, which was very good.
Interlaken is really best used as a base from which to explore the surrounding countryside and, if you're up to it, to travel round most of the cities of the west half of Switzerland. Italy is pretty close, and worth a trip over the border too.
All in all, nice, shame its been a little spoilt.
