The Philippines is a bit off the beaten track as far as British tourists are concerned, this largely being due to the amateurish efforts of the Manila Dept. of Tourism to promote it, but it is well worth a visit. The people are some of the most friendly to be found anywhere, and with its christian background and over forty years of american rule, it is probably the most 'westernised' of all the south east asian countries. Visit the capital, Manila, with its 16th century walled spanish city and nightlife equal if not better to that of Bangkok, take a trip to Baguio, the city of pines, at 5000ft altitude and a cool temperate climate, or visit the fantastic beach resorts in and around Cebu. Anywhere, you'll find friendly, helpful people and a great welcome. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
