Totally relaxed, soaking up the sun, drinking rum, chatting with the friendliest people I've ever met, at Christmas!!
In Tobago the culture is so relaxed, you just melt into it. this is the place where, if it rains, nobody has to go to work. Imagine that here in Britain, or live it in Tobago. I spent, no enjoyed, two weeks in Tobago with three friends. We arrived on Christmas day 2000, and sadly departed on January 9th 2001. The holiday was perfect!
The first night we went to a Christmas party at Shore Park and met a group of friends called Freedom. We got chatting to the people organising the event, and friends were made. The local people are so sincere. Obviously there are exceptions, some locals roam the beaches searching for tourists to sell necklaces or containers to, but there are also some genuine artists and craftsmen who aren't greedy with setting their prices for their work.
The island is beautiful. The beaches are perfect. And at the time of year we went, for a time it felt like we were the only people not resident in Tobago. We didn't start seeing tourists until past 10 days into our holiday.
I could go on forever describing my holiday, but I'll cut short the description to a few highlights:
The Beaches - Pigeon point was the closest to where we stayed. Blue water, white sand, perfect.
Scuba diving - $50 and you can get training in the worldwide accepted PADI training school, and go diving into the beautiful correl reefs.
Little Tobago - A tiny island turned into a bird sanctuary at the North East end of Tobago. You pass Ian Flemmings old house, which is on an even smaller island cut off from the rest of the world!
Plymouth - Yes, Plymouth. There is a Plymouth in Tobago. We met some like minded people who were into music and dancing - never too far from a bassline!
Transport - A Four mile journey costs 40p per person (higher around Christmas). Tobago has a different sense of transport, you just wave at cars, the drivers stop and take you where you want to go.
Tobago is the place to be for chilled out holiday makers. If you could do with having a wonderful time, in a heavenly place, Tobago is where to be.
Spread a little Tobago positivity all around the place you're from, and feel better!!
