I am an adventurous "Granny" constantly being told by my daughters to "act my age" I love to travel to far flung places where we always have adventures. I also design files for my plotter cutter whenever I have spare time.

What a wonderful country. We flew into Puerto Ordaz. Spent a couple of days on and around the River Orinoco, a word of warning Take Waterproof outerwear, you need it in this area. My goodness does it rain when it wants to. The storms are spectacular. From here we dorove through the rainforest stopping at all manner of places on the way then onto the Gran Sabana. What a contrast wide open spaces, and roads that are so streight the Romans must have been there. We stayed in a Gold mining town but were not allowed out at all due to the prospectors being armed and very hostile to strangers. ( we felt as though we had stepped back in time into an old American movie)We visited a gold mine and learned a lot about the gold we wear, when we left we felt guitly to wear gold. Thenwe were lucky to visit an illegal diamond strip mine. This is horrendous. The conditions of living are very primative, the only way in or out is by donkey,or 4 wheel drive then a hot walk for a couple of hours. I am so glad we saw it for ourself. We the went on to Sainta Helena de Urien where we based ourselves for 2 nights in yet another "camp" We were surprised that the owner spoke perfect English. Sainta Helena is 15km from the Brazilian Border, if you intend to cross it ensure you have your Yellow Fever Certificate with you as without it you will be turned back. The only thing which spoils the view is the Electricity supply to Brazil. Then on to Brazil for the day and back to pick up a light plane in the middle of nowhere to take us to Canaima national park. We flew over Salto Angel then on to a remote camp at Arekuna with a clearing in the rainforest for the plane to land. Make sure you take all medical supplies as there is no doctor or medical facilities for 2 days from here. Arekuna is very primative but the people are very friendly, the nightly storms are spectacular, like November 5th every night.

Not a bad opinion Denise, just requires a bit of tidying up, try and put in some blank spaces in, to break up your paragraphs, this make it appear longer, neater and easier to read...Brian

Advantages: Lack of tourists, amazing scenery and wildlife, friendly people, and good transport. Disadvantages: You have to be prepared to organise everything yourself, in Spanish! Not for people looking for glitz, glamour or an easy life.
