The British Vrigin Islands is a great place ofr novice and experienced sailers alike. The consistency of the weath and winds makes sailing very easy and most of the navigation is by site, except to get to Anegada (a very rewaarding experience). There is an easy route around the South of Tortola, up to Virgin Gorda with plenty of stop off points for some really good snorkelling. It is possible to moor in totally isolated bays if you wnat a quiet night, or many bays with lively nightlife, good bars and restaurants. There are also some smarter resort hotels if you are after a bit of luxury. Virgin Gorda is a good half way point with a full service marina - excellent for having a proper shower and stocking up on provisions. Then head up the 16 mile passage to Anegada - this island is completely unliek any of the others. It is completely flat with a tree being the highest point. A littel tricky to navigate the bouyage into the moorings as there is shallow watercovering a coral reef and some of the bouys are not consistent with the chart, but worth it. Studding beaches on the north of the island which you reach by taxi, and a great beach bar selling fresh lobster - you have to book so they know how many lobsters to catch! Then head down from Anegada along the NOrth of Tortola to some typical desrt islands - a palm tree or two surrounded by golen white sand. Then onto Jost van Dyke for the infamous soggy dollar bar. Sailing back round to The South of Torotla for a day ro 2 to spare - perfect sialing for a two week holiday.
Advantages: Great sailing - ideal for beginners, fun beach bars Disadvantages: Very popular, can be busy

We particularly enjoyed:
Norman Island - a large bay called the Bight with a restaurant and bar on a converted ship, and a lively beach bar
Marina ... ...Dyke - two lovely bays, one with the Soggy Dollar bar (cos you swim from the boat...) and one with the world famous Foxys - voted in the top ten places in the world for New Year's Eve
Virgin Gorda - excellent marinas at Spanish Town and the Bitter End yacht club, amazing rock formations at the Baths
Salt Island - Snorkelling the wreck of the Rhone
We didn't go to Anegada, a wildlife sanctuary as the navigation is a little hazardous around the ...
