Advantages: An intereresting STATE to be in. Disadvantages: It can be cold and wet! When its hot its HOT
In 1990 I fell in love! corny? not really, I was in love with Washington State, and what a State to be in. Where do I start. In Seattle on the borders of Canada, or by the Columbia River Gorge, on the Borders of Oregon. Yes that is where my affair began. Portland in Oregan. From the Airport in Portland it is just a few minutes drive to Camas in Washington where I stayed with friends for a while.
Camas is a really small town on the river, known for ... ...little town, high above the river. with views of Portland on the other side, when at night the lights from this large modern town in Oregon twinkle in a dazzling display of stars hovering over the river, their reflection doubling the display as they bounced off the water. If you look south the first thing you notice is Mount Hood. Looking North West, you see Mount St Helens, which still appears to smoke if there has been heavy rain.
Camas, is set ...

Advantages: A great city with so many beautiful things to see and do. Disadvantages: Can't think of one!
...Washington is my favourite American city. Well laid out, clean, with plenty of trees and open spaces. Clean air, friendly people, and on of the safest cities in the USA.
Start early in thw day, and take one of the bus tours. There are multiple drop-off points where the highlights of the City are to be found. My favourites include the following:
1.The White House and the Capitol building. Truly magnificent!
2.The Lincoln memorial and the Reflecting pool. Awesome! And the view
back to the Capitol just has to be seen from Lincoln's chair!
3.The Korean and Vietnam war memorials. Very moving and sombre!
4.The Cathedral. A little out of the City, but very English! Also with
magnificent views.
5.Museums galore, and all free entry!
6.Arlington cemetary. A must! But be prepared for long walks, or take
the bus tour. Look out...

Advantages: Everything is free Disadvantages: It does not have a lot apart politics and history
...The best thing about Washington is the museuems. If you are travelling on a budget then this is the place for you. Everything is free.!!! All the museums, art galleries, even the White House are free to visit.
My favourite and the most shocking is the Holocaust museum. It takes you through all the atrocites of the Holocaust from every aspect. Very informative. The Washington Monument is great, especially at night, the National Air and Space Museum and the White House are also well worth a visit. The Lincoln memorial is very imressive and the reflecting pools are lovely. Take some time to sit in the parks and just enjoy the area. There are many other great places to visit but you may find that there is not alot else apart from cultural centers. Make sure you visit the FBI HQ although you dont get to see much.
I went in the summer...

Just got back from a lovely weekend in London and stayed at the the Washington Hotel in Mayfair. Do I reccommend this hotel - well it is good value. I booked direct from their website and it cost £89 plus VAT including full breakfast for two. This is for more
