"Service stations; a very big car park, full of very small parking spaces, 40 toilets decked out in formica, peach for gals, blue for boys, (with those little adverts for breakdown coverage on the back of the door), Sock shop, mobile phone retailer, Burger King and extortionately priced shop. You park, take a leak, force down a dried up little burger served by the stereotypical greasy/ spotty youth and browse the shop, perhaps pausing to buy a 60g ..." Read review

THE FRENCH DO IT BETTER.

AdvantagesGreat driving experience.

DisadvantagesYou can get tired easily.

"I have driven to Spain for my holidays on four occasions and the worst part of the journey is getting to Dover. I have driven from Tyneside and lately from Suffolk (I moved home). I have managed to drive from Suffolk to the Costa Brava in 19 hours with generous stops but I suggest that you take a little longer. I will endeavour to give you some comparisons between English and French motoring apart from the fact that they drive on the right side ..." Read review

An Oasis in the desert

AdvantagesVery handy

DisadvantagesExpensive

"Service stations in England have often been criticised for their outrageous prices, so what do you get for your money? In the last few years I have visited Service stations up and down the country, mainly due to weekend breaks with my girlfriend. Travelling for hours can eventually drive you insane and a pit stop is often necessary for rest, food and the usual bodily functions! Yes, the price of food and goods seems high but when you look further ..." Read review

A Costly Convenience

Advantagessee op

Disadvantagessee op

"Let me start by saying that I like others do find the cost of service stations to be extortionate. But I do see the reasoning behind them. Service stations cost massive amounts to build, they have to build exits and entries from the Motorway and have stringent regulations to comply with. They are required to be open 24 hours a day 365 days a year and staffing for many of those shifts is expensive. They are required to provided free services (such ..." Read review

Tiredness can kill. Take a break.

AdvantagesA stop could save your life...

Disadvantages...and leave you bankrupt!

"Many of you will have seen these signs as you travel across the country's extensive network of Motorways. The advice is remarkably sound, and, having experienced the perils of tiredness taking over, I wholeheartedly support the campaign. However, when I take a rest stop, I expect to find adequate facilities to take on board food and drink as well as fuel. This is where the problem begins. In the UK, Granada appear to have the monopoly over franchised ..." Read review
