Addressing my Ignorance on the Red Cross
Advantages: Very interesting, very educational Disadvantages: Can get a bit confusing trying to navigate around the exhibits
...walk uphill to the 'Musee International de la Croix Rouge et Croissant Rouge' or for the Anglophones, the International Museum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent. Old and New
The organisation's head-quarters sit high on a hillside in a grand old white building with the letters CICR picked out on the sign on the roof. In contrast, the museum looks nothing like the building you see from the road. It's a modern construction with lots of glass ... ...and exhibits are quite harrowing and I think I would have found a lot of this to be quite dull when I was a child.

Switzerland's Only Museum for Potheads
Advantages: If you like pots, it's the best place in Switzerland Disadvantages: If you don't like pots and glass, this probably isn't for you
...most recent was the Musee Ariana in Geneva. What's the chance that my husband and I, wandering around looking for the Red Cross museum and the United Nations building, will stumble across museum dedicated to two arts that we're passionate about? We love glass and we particularly love ceramics and as we walked from the bus stop to the Red Cross museum we just happened to see the signs for the Musee Ariana. As luck would have it this is the only museum ... ...glass. And it's FREE! Truly the gods were smiling down on us that Sunday afternoon. For our friends who were with us, it was a bit less serendipitous and a bit more down-to-earth-boring and we were consequently forced - in the interest of international diplomacy (well we were near the UN so maybe it was rubbing off on us - to rush our visit more than we really wanted to. None the less we loved this little unexpected gem of a museum. Getting There

A great historical experience
Advantages: The archaeological site is something very different Disadvantages: None
My hubby and I recently visited Geneva for the weekend. We decided to look at the old town and came across the Cathedral. The hidden gem for us was the archaeological site underneath this lovely old church. This Cathedral is located in the old town of Geneva. Churches have stood on this site since the 4th century AD. Construction of the Cathedral itself started in 1160 and took over 150 years to complete. It is well-known as one of the churches which ... ...for many years.
What does it look like from the outside?
From the outside, the church has a lovely entrance with marble pillars. Unlike many European Cathedrals, it does not have a Gothic facade. It has two tall steeples, one of which is open to the public.
What does it look like on the inside?
The lovely stained glass windows survived the reformation period, however, most of the other ornamentation did not survive.
What is there to see? Inside ...

Gateway to more than Switzerland
Advantages: Close to town, not too big, easy transport links, Easyjet hub Disadvantages: Few airport facilities, expensive (but so is all of Switzerland)
Geneva is my hometown airport. I have used dozens of airports over the years, but I have used GVA far more than any other. (It was even one of my playgrounds as a kid - I had a pass that let me go airside whenever I wanted!)
Assuming that your first experience will be arriving, I will deal with that first. GVA has one runway, nestled up against the Jura mountains. Whichever approach you make, it is spectacular, either over the foothills of the Alps, ... ...week (the only place in Geneva to open on a Sunday). All trains from there go to Geneva's main station. My tip though is to take the number 10 trolley bus. Go upstairs to where the check in desks are and outside. The bus stop is at the far end of the airport, next to the station. The fare for one zone valid for an hour is 2.20 francs (about £1). One zone should be all you need if you are going to most hotels. You pay at a machine, so you will need ...

Switz History
Advantages: Very historic Disadvantages: Spire dosen't seem to match & can never get a good picture
after construction began in 1160 the St Pierre Cathedral has been changing ever since. When it was first built it had a sort of Romanesque-Gothic look, but then when it converted to Protestantism in 1536 the Cathedral was stripped of altars, statues, paintings and furniture, only the stained glass windows were allowed to stay. The Cathedral was famous for John Calvins sermons, that he delivered for 18 years since the Cathedral converted to protestantism, ... ...Many of the visitors go for the spectacular views which ypu can see from the spire, after climbing a narrow and winding staircase consisting of 157 or 8 steps, i can't remember which, you end up seeing the entire of Geneva and beyond, from the Lake and the fountain to the mountains. Although i never saw it, archaeologists have found many historic things underground. They have found remains of 3 churches before it, 4th century christian sanctuaries ...
