...it from everywhere, coming into Genoa by land or sea or air; and when you are in Genoa, on any height overlookong the town, if you gaze out to sea over the port, the Lanterna will be a prominent feature of the view.
It combines quite wonderfully the aspect of power and solidity with that of grace and proportion. The rebuilding of the Lanterna in iits present shape took place in 1543, after the original tower had suffered considerable damage as the result of a siege, in which the Genoese population pinned down the French ...

Advantages: Stunning Landscape and intriguing architecture Disadvantages: A bit dirty
I went to Genoa as a day trip, so i don't have much in the way of accommodation, but would definatley reccommend the Youth Hostel, as in almost any other place I would/have been to. To be honest, since i have become a YHA member, I don't know why i should stay in a normal hotel again. Not only is it cheaper in a hostel (approx 12-20 euros per bed), but it is more comfortable and in better locations for their price than almost all hotels. The service ... ...villages.
Once back in Genoa we had dinner at the Cafe Uno next to the bus station. This resturant is definatley reccomended as it's in a busy area of the city and is full of life. The service is very quick, and the pizza is the best i've ever eaten.
The city was voted city of culture 2004, so that is reason enough to go, and the city is like no other that i've been to. ...

Advantages: A great starting place to see Italy. Disadvantages: Forgot them as fast as I found them!
...weeks in summer 2002. Genoa is the city we flew in to, it cost me £5 to fly to Genoa on EasyJet (hard to believe I know!). The aproach by plane is stunning the airport is right on the harbour so as you fly in you see the whole city.
On arrival we caught a taxi , which was a reasonable price to the youth hostel, the city is a bus or taxi journey from the airport. The youth hostel at Genoa is probably on the highest hill in the city. For weary feet ... ...My first impressions of Genoa was that it seemed run down, but that is all part of the charm of the place, each street offers something different. Never walk past an open door without looking through it. Behind many of the run down exteriors are magnificent courtyards, much of Italy is hidden behind doors and walls I discovered. There really are truly some magnificent boulevards and fountains and the buildings are fantastic Stand on the harbour and ...

Advantages: a beauty working city Disadvantages: incoming G8
Incredible! There are no words to say what's happening to the city when it's arriving the meeting of G8 and I do not want to think to what it will happen when the forum of the 8 more representative countries of the world-wide economy will be carried out. Maybe we think too much to the possible problems that will probably occur in such a dangerous day, but I actually think it's a serious matter.
I refer to the issue of the Seattle's people and to ... ...waited meeting, but destroy a beautiful and working city, with the attempt of hitting the capitalists and the globalization reality. Incredible!
Italy has moved up 3,000 policemen and it has been closed many offices and public and private users for the fear of a BIG RIOT ... yesterday I knew that local offices of my farm will remain closed during these days for the question of G8. Incredible! It seems to live an incubus ... yes it is, because the ...

Advantages: Small and efficient. Easy access to all of Italy Disadvantages: Ryan Air not always on time (but the airport makes the wait enjoyable)
Since the price increase and quality decrease in Easy Jet flights I have looked elsewhere for European travel and discovered Ryan Air.
Working in Italy this summer I had cause to use Ryan Air out of Genoa (Genova in Italy) Airport and have been impressed with the renovation work that has been carried out to make this a lovely little airport.
The cafes, bars and duty free are just big enough for the small number of comuters who use the airport. The waiting area shows English and Italian films and the check in is friendly and efficient.
The airport link bus runs to the train station (with direct lines to Milan, Rome, Venice, Pisa and the ferry terminal for Sicily and Sardinia) and centre of the city avery 30 minutes making Genoa a great airport to start any journey into Italy from. ...

. The only small thing I would say is that they were very quick to take your plates away, which although sounds good, was a little annoying as you had to leave something at the table to go and get your dessert! Maybe just me!
Entertainment was good, comedians were fantastic. You could do what you wanted when you wanted and where you wanted.
The day trips were well organised and you can book them on the ship or before you travel. When I had a little fall on the quayside and twisted my leg, they attended straight away and refunded my trip money without me having to ask!

Lille was candidate for France at the time of the '04 Olympics.
Quickly eliminated, it obtained in compensation the title of "European Capital of Culture", event organized jointly with the city of Genoa, Italy.
The city was entirely renovated on this occasion.
What is necessary to see ? There's for all the tastes: Grand'Place with its Flemish architecture, the Vieux-Lille (Old Lille) with small lanes, shops and craftsmen, Wazemmes and its great Sunday market (flea market).
The typical estaminets, where you'll be able ...
