Hi, I'm Chris
I like: life, chocolate cake, real ale, espresso, travel, outdoor activities, jesus, short reviews.
I don't like: miserable music, concrete, cod in batter, aggressive behaviour, pop-up ads, long reviews.
Happy ciaoing!

First of all I must object to a previous reviews stating that North Africans are a problem here. They do, in fact, lend the city a vibrance and a character that is missing in other Italian cities. Many of the stalls that appear at night are managed by black africans. My kids loved looking at their wares and buying cheap jewellery etc. The port area has been improved dramatically since 2000 and the later G8 summit. It's a delightful area, the centrepiece of which is the aquarium - the largest in europe. Go and see it - the dolphins and sharks are awesome!
The piazza in the city square is beautiful and is the subject of even more redevelopment.
Dining can be cheap, trattoria Emma is just off the port side opposite the aquarium and although service was indifferent, the food was excellent, (range of pizza / pasta 5-20 euros). The house pizza was superb - 6.50 euro.
Accomodation is plentiful around stazione pricipe, along via balbi. We stayed at Hotel Aquaverde which had basic 70 euro doubles with air con and shower available. Rooms were spotless.
Ryanair fly to Genoa (Genova) from London Stanstead very cheaply. www....you know what....com Genoa can be reached by rail from Milan in less than 2 hours and for about 10 euro. visit the trenitalia website - trenitalia - not .com but .it
Don't miss the cinque terre south of Genoa. These are 5 villages which are absolutely gorgeous! visit the cinque terre web site (.it) or get the lonely planet guide to Italy.
Short review? Not enough detail? Don't tell me, I don't want blue dots! Mail me if you're interested in Genoa or travel in Italy....
