By George!

Advantages: Usually something going on, Great meeting point, Christmas
Disadvantages: None unless you hate red tarmac!

...good old ‘Glesga’, we have George Square.

The square was originally laid out in 1781 on what was then a marsh. Gradually, it was built around until eventually it became the centre of a bustling city which did very well in the industrial revolution and traded heavily in fabrics, tobacco and shipbuilding. Through the years the Square has evolved and changed and is now very much the heart of the city, both geographically and spiritually, ...
...directly from the airport to George Square itself! If you really must drive in then there is usually loads of parking spaces in the Buchanan Galleries Shopping Mall which is, you guessed it, behind Queen Street Train station and is signposted from the George Square exit off the M8 motorway. So it really is easy to get there no matter how you travel!

Central Attraction

Advantages: Central, free, sights of interest, cultural
Disadvantages: Can get busy, PIGEONS....

George Square is undeniably one of the most popular features in Glasgow. It is located in the city centre, and is bound by Queen Street, George Street, Ingram Street and Frederick Street, just north to the shopping Mecca of Argyle Street (aka "Shoplifters Alley"). The Square itself is quite imposing and recently underwent renovation as part of the 1999 City of Architecture rehaul in Glasgow. Unfortunately, this meant covering the square in red tarmac, ...
...as the expected tourist crowd, George Square draws large crowds of office workers on their lunch break in the summer, as well as the compulsory students wearing very little clothing (NB. I do not condone this action - I am the person sitting at the north end in the Paddington Bear style duffel coat in July....). There are many benches provided and are generally well looked-after so seating should not be too much of a problem for those of a "people-watching" ...

Count Me Out!

Advantages: Good, cheap food; warm...
Disadvantages: Long waiting times; untidy; just not that great...

The Counting House The Counting House is part of the Wetherspoon's chain of pubs, which you don't really notice from the outside. It's located in the centre of Glasgow on St. Vincent's Place, which is across from George's Square. It is located in a really good place, it's so close to the main shopping part of Glasgow and George's Square looks gorgeous around Christmas with all the lights. From the outside, the building is amazing. It's quite similar to a lot of the architecture around Glasgow which I love. Inside, there are high ceilings and it looks really quite beautiful, you do feel like you're in an old-fashioned, stately home. There is a huge bar in the middle of the room, surrounded by bar stools. There are also high tables around the centre of the room. If you go a little further from the bar you will find tables ...

Cheese Heaven

Advantages: Central location, excellent music and plenty of talent.
Disadvantages: Cheese overload can cause massive brain hemhorage.

Strathclyde Union is unbeatable, off of george square in Glasgow centre it is within walking distance of all night clubs if you want to just start your night there. Or there is plenty of choice, with eight floors and 6 bars all open till 3am. The music is cheesy or if you visit the dark room its dance, or the eighth floor is pop. Or there is plenty of opportunity on floor 6 for amateur bands to play in the bubble. Entry is free most nights, and a student can sign in up to four guests, the ultimate in student entertainment. ...

Abode hotel glasgow.

Advantages: Fantastic hotel. Trendy. Perfect place to stay when you visit glasgow.
Disadvantages: NOT A THING.

Well i must say what a wonderful hotel. Me and my girlfriend booked a night at Abode glasgow on new years eve and loved it so much we booked a second night in the morning just after we enjoyed the best breakfast we had for years. We both live in glasgow but wanted a nice hotel to go back to after enjoying the new year celebrations in george square. We just could not be botherd with the hasle getting home. It is bad enough getting a taxi on a normal saturday night, think what it would be like with ten thousand all trying to get a taxi at the one time. I loved the way the hotel has been decorated. It is very modern but they have kept alot of the old features. Including a very old life in the centre of the hotel, with a very modern water feature flowing right down the lift framework. I think it is fantastic that they have kept all ...
