Schones Stadt (beautiful town)
Advantages: gorgeous and lively Disadvantages: really big, its easy to get lost
I visited Bremen on a German Exchange with the school. As we drove into the city we were all astouded by the sheer size of the place. My pen pal was right "es ist eine sehr grosse stadt!!"
With its picturesque appearance Bremen is truly a lovely city. The town centre boasts a huge station with the best trains i have ever travelled on. Their seats are so comfy and the trains are scarily quiet!
The tram systems are superb and they come so regularly ... ...run in almost every bit of the city; along with the infinite amount of buses, so getting from A to B could not be easier!
They have so many restaurants and places to drink we lost count, everywhere you look there is somewhere to stop. It was fantastic after alot of shopping!!
The shopping was great! I envied my pen pal so much! They have it all, the huge streets are filled with stores which are just as large. It's great value over there too, which ...

Visit Wagner's Unique Festspielhaus in Bayreuth!
Advantages: Unique opera house. Disadvantages: Loooong wait for tickets to Wagner's operas.
...find the northern region of Bavaria as part of your visit to Germany, do make a stop at the Bayreuth Festspielhaus, but avoid it during the festival season in the summer. It is truly the only opera house of its kind in the world, and possesses much history, musical and otherwise. Guided tours are scheduled at specific times in the day (see link below), and entry for each person is 10 euros.
PICTURES!
To view a small set of photos ... ...The Ciao entry form obliged me to choose from the drop-down menus for Nightlife, Shopping, Ease of getting around and Family-friendliness, all of which do not really apply in this review (we had rented a car to get around, did not sample the nightlife or shopping opportunities, didn't have children aboard), so I settled for an Average rating for these four.

Rhine Valley and its delights
Advantages: Scenery, peace, Disadvantages: Can be very busy and it rains )but often only at night?)
Wonderful, picturesque Rhine Valley with its half timbered villages, parks and vineyards. Spectacular in every Season - watch the colours, share the atmosphere, drink the wine.
Travel by boat or steamer from Koblenz to Rudesheim. If not too intoxicated by the drink and atmosphere when you arrive at either end you can then sample the different town the Rhine has to offer ( particularly the Rudesheimer coffee).
Driving down the Rhine you discover ... ...village delights or a meal at one of the the many castles that overlook the Rhine.
One day a year part of the route along the Rhine is closed to cars etc and 'Family Day' enables the bicycles to come out and roller skates and you can enjoy the restfulness this area can offer ( as well as the many beer tents en route).
Spectacular Rhine in Flames is a must - check relevant area for details - and experience the Rhine aglow.
Visiting the Rhine Valley ...

One Day In Ulm
Advantages: not too touristy Disadvantages: none
“In Ulm und um Ulm und um Ulm herum.” (In Ulm and round Ulm and round about Ulm; the ‘u’ is pronounced like ‘oo’ in ‘look’) That tongue twister, the fact that the Gothic cathedral sports the highest steeple in the world of Christendom (161m), Albert Einstein who was born here and the legendary ’Tailor of Ulm’ have put this city of 115 000 inhabitants on the map of Germany - even if many ... ...to the central place of Ulm and see the Münster towering in front of us. In the South of Germany the cathedrals are called Münster, in the North ‘Dom’. It is the second largest example of Gothic ecclesiastical architecture in Germany after the Cathedral in Cologne. It was begun in 1377 and only completed in 1890, begun as a Catholic church and completed as a Protestant one! The builders were so slow that the Reformation took place and ...

A small town in Germany?
Advantages: Compact, cultured, loads to do Disadvantages: Limited "old town", some may find it lacking vitality
Bonn was the capital of the former West Germany (or Bundesrepublik in German) between1949 and 1990. It is the nineteenth largest (according to Wikipedia) city in Germany which says much about why it was chosen to be the new capital following World War Two; Konrad Adenauer, the post-war chancellor of the Bundesrepublik, was a local lad and he pushed for Bonn to become capital over Frankfurt, a city which was in a much better position to take on the ... ...infrastructure but Bonn won the day in spite of the added costs involved.
Following World War Two, Germany was divided into four zones; this was done to satisfy the Allies who each had various claims on the territory and wished to protect their individual interests and the other reason was that it was believed that Germany needed to be prevented from becoming too powerful again in the future. Although Berlin was also divided, it was seen as imperative ...
