Splendid Spa-Spa
Review of Baden-Baden by MALU

Advantages: a pretty small town with an elegant flair
Disadvantages: none

...I must have been in Baden-Baden before that year, what happened to the building after that date I don´t know, I only know that in 1998 it opened as the Festspielhaus. I got off at the beginning of the pedestrian precinct (not all visitors may be enthusiastic about the cobblestones, they're new put in for nostalgic reasons), nearly the whole centre is without traffic, very good this, and started walking. I liked what I saw at once (Baden-Baden was ...
...pointing to the important sights Baden-Baden has to offer so that I had no problem finding the tourist information office (at last!). It is housed in the Trinkhalle (Drinking Hall) , an impressive building with a 90 m long covered promenade supported by Corinthian columns. I couldn´t use the bathing facilities for lack of time but I wanted to drink some of the famous water at least! I got a plastic cup at the counter of the bar/restaurant (20 cent) ... Read review

Full of Wankers
Review of Wank (Germany) by Morgenhund

Advantages: wide range of activities all year round
Disadvantages: no summer skiing

...to say “I’m going to Wank on holiday”) and yet just a stone’s throw away, is the resort of Wank. >--On the piste in Wank--< Whilst Garmisch has the trickiest runs, Wank is ideal for beginners and less experienced skiers and is great for a family skiing holiday, as there are a lot of nursery slopes. Part of the beauty of Wank is that your skipass extends beyond the resort and you can enjoy skiing at five resorts that all fall under the Garmisch-Partenkirchen ...
...can find a place in Wank rather than Garmisch, you’ll probably find the prices are slightly cheaper, and that due to the fact that it is slightly further away from the Garmisch ski area, less congested. At the end of the day the savings are not going to be that huge over Garmisch, and you are better suited staying here if you want self-catering, than if you want a large hotel, with most of the large hotels being in Garmisch itself. >--Nightlife/Aprčs ... Why not - Wolfsburg?
Review of Wolfsburg (Germany) by minae

Advantages: nice, interesting city - great countryside
Disadvantages: none

...the volkswagen. You will find Wolfsburg in Northern Germany. From Hamburg it is 150 kilometers to the southeast, from Hannover 80 kilometers to the east and from Brunsvig only 30 kilometers east. From Magdeburg it is about 120 kilometers to the west. Wolfsburg is one of Germany´s youngest cities, founded in 1939, when the Volkswagen factories where built near the small, old town of Fallersleben. Today there live about 100.000 people in a very modern, ...
...Aalto buildings in one place outside of Finland. A walk through the city starts at the modern art museum. You pass the townhall, a lot of top shops and end at the railway station from where it is just a short walk to one of the new world wonders: The big Volkswagen city. Here you can find a really great car museum, showtowers made of steel and glass for all sixteen companies which produce cars under the volkswagen roof, a first class hotel and a ... Read review

Nie Wieder (Never Again)
Review of Dachau Memorial by DebzJ

Advantages: Interesting, definitely worth a visit
Disadvantages: Saddening

...The first group of Dachau prisoners were taken into “protective custody” and were at first guarded by the Bavarian police (Bavaria being that part of Germany). The place used for holding them was an abandoned First World War munitions factory. Who would have guessed it would turn into such a place that the name would be feared by those living in Nazi Germany and that even today, just over 70 years later, the name could still evoke such ...
...against the guards. “With Dachau as a model, Eicke developed an institution which was intended, by its very existence, to spread fear among the populace, an effective tool to silence every opponent of the regime. Dachau became, in effect, a training ground for the SS.” The Prisoners **************** At first, only known prisoners of the Nazi regime were held. Social Democrats, Communists and Monarchists were forced to live together ... Read review

Passau: quiet but fascinating
Review of Passau (Germany) by redhillier

Advantages: Scenery, food, people
Disadvantages: Might be a bit quiet for some people

Passau is an old market town in Bavaria, located at the point where the Inn and Ilz rivers flow into the Danube (or Donau, in the local parlance). It's so close to the Austrian border that if you drop a handful of change in Passau town centre, not all of the coins will land in Germany. Passau is well-connected by road and rail to Munich in Bavaria, and Linz and Salzburg in Austria. This makes it easy for tourists to reach by car from Munich airport, ...
...them) in 21st century Europe, Passau these days derives much of its income from tourism, especially as the terminus for Danube river cruises, as it's the furthest navigable point upriver. From here you can board a boat and motor down to Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade or even all the way to the Black Sea. Alternatively, you can do as we did and take a 1-hour, "three river" cruise which just takes in Passau and its immediate environs. It's the best way ... Read review
