TREFF RAMADA GOSLAR
Advantages: Pleasant hotel not too far from the old town Disadvantages: noisy!
...the shape of the Treff Ramada which we managed to book direct for only 53 euros per night room only. The hotel is situated outside of the old town (1.5km), but it's pretty easy to find as it's only a few junctions from the main highway and well signposted in any case. It lies within a residential area, but is relatively private as it's set in its own, wooded grounds. It's not the most attractive building around (what was going on with architects ... ...3, 3-floored buildings - the wings fanning out from the reception area which opened out into an internal, triangular courtyard affair which was bathed in light from the glass roof. The restaurant and bar were on one side of the ground floor, while the swimming pool on another. the courtyard area itself was well catered for in the leather sofa and occasional table department, while glass cabinets displayed some of the local crafts. Checking-in was ...

A First Class Choice at Second Class Prices
Advantages: Very convenient location Disadvantages: A little bit basic
...In the case of the Intercity in Bremen, neither of these situations is true - it's not an architectural gem and it's not a sleazy dive either. What you get is a very nice, clean, modern hotel that's right next to the city's very attractive red-brick hauptbahnhof and right in front of the bus and tram station. As you can imagine, this isn't going to be the quietest hotel you've ever stayed in and if you open the windows, you will get a lot of noise. ... ...more of that later. The Intercity works for me because it's a short walk to our Bremen office but after many stays, I now think that if I were going for tourism, I would still seriously consider the Intercity. On the downside, I sometimes find the plaza outside the front of the railway station can get a bit over-run with scruffy smelly punks with dogs on strings which can give the place a bit of an unsavoury feel but it doesn't feel unsafe as there ...

Noisy and Basic - I won't go back.
Advantages: I'm really struggling to think of any good reason to stay here Disadvantages: Smelly, noisy and tiny
...The road noise at the Mercure was much more disturbing and this wasn't helped by the need to keep the windows open. When I arrived I opened the windows because the room was so hot and there's no air-con anywhere in the hotel. At night when the temperature plummeted I had to continue to leave them open because of the smell of smoke and air-freshener.
My room was a single - which for 91 Euros a night room only was a bit of a rip off. I pay 66 Euros ... ...two off the mattress. The Mercure pillow was like trying to sleep with your head on a sandbag - it was fat and exceptionally hard. This combined with the draft from keeping the windows open all night, left me with a nasty crick in my neck.
The bathroom was instantly recognisably Accor with one of their strange moulded sink units. For a shower-room it was basic but of fair size. The toilet was one of those nasty ones that are historically popular ...

I'd sail the seas to avoid the Maritim, Bremen
Advantages: It's quiet Disadvantages: It's on life support and needs a shot of adrenaline
The Maritim is not one of my favourite hotels. If I hear that I've been booked there, a wave of disappointment rolls over me and that's based on only two stays so far - but I'm sure there will be more. It's not that there's actually anything WRONG with the hotel, it's just that it's got an air of being tired, past it and just not up to scratch for the new millenium. It must have once been really quite grand but today it's about as up to date as Princess ... ...some love and attention. The Maritim must have once been really quite nice but now it just looks like it's forgotten how to enjoy itself.
When you arrive there's a drop-off point for taxis and a nice little garden and beer garden to the side although I've never seen anyone using it. As you enter either through a rotating door or a couple of automatic doors on either side, the first impression is of a massive lobby - far bigger surely than it needs ...

Wurlitzer hell at Hotel Kurfurst
Advantages: Acceptable and reasonably cheap; useful location Disadvantages: Terrible food
...at heel but perfectly adequate hotel is used mainly by visiting British coach parties that keep it busy even during the off season. However, you may be able to get a room if you have turned up in town without a reservation and are struggling. There are a small number of car parking spaces in the grounds of the hotel or you can park just along the road beside the ALDI supermarket.
Hotel Kurfurst is at the western end of the Kamp Bornhofen, a few ... ...It's a family run hotel and the staff are all friendly and speak good English. There are rooms in the main building and more in the small annexe beside the convent church Augustin St Marys. The bells ring all night through so, if you are a light sleeper, request a room on the other side of the hotel. Unfortunately the train line runs nearby and big lorries career through the town 24 hours a day so there aren't any truly quiet rooms.
If you have ...
