Yet another eatery but this time not a chain owned venue. This is a privately owned restuarant and has been in the same ownership since 1977.

Open 7 days a week all year round including lunchtimes, which was when I visited.

We were called to our table in a corner with a maroon tablecloth on it, wine glasses etc.

The waitress came for the order and then came our first course, we didnt see a menu at all. The first course I had pate which was just normal and the others had prawn cocktail, again nothing out of the ordinary. I thought if this is it then what has everyone been praising then for.

We all opted for the carvey, now this was something.They helped my mother who cannot walk very well and this I thought was exceptional. We arrived at the carvery, a choice of pork, turkey or beef or all three. The choice of vegetables was exceptional, cauliflower cheese, leeks, roast and new potatoes, carrots, corn on the cob, various sauces, gravy etc.
The meat just melted in your mouth it was superb.

We were kept waiting quite awhile until the waitress cleared our table and then we were taken to another room which was full of choices of sweets. I had creme caramel and it was the bees knees, there was trifle, various gauteaux, strawberries and cream and ice cream.

Then we had coffee with chocolate sweets.

For the three of us without the drinks it was £27.OO which I thought was a reasonable price. I would like to go back to try an evening meal sometime.

The restuarant seats 150 in five individually designed dining rooms, one of them being a conservatory which overlooks the lake. They also have lounges as well so you donot have to sit in the bar.

The evening menu contains over 30 main dishes and are freshly prepared with a steak known for its quality in the region.

The carvery on a sunday is from 11.30am to 9.00pm. In the weekday they have a lunch time menu or you can still enjoy the carvery.

They do corporate functions, conferences up to 50 delegates, wedding and special celebrations.
