There is a main bus station called Haymarket bus Station located behind Marks and Spencers, facing Oxfam, Tsang Foods and Mark Toney. There bus queues are organised in an orderly fashion, though there are not enough chairs and rubbish bins. As result of this, there is quite an amount of rubbish lying around waiting to be tripped on. Also if you have had a long day of walking, can't stand long or just really tired, then you're in bad luck as there are only 4 chairs per bus queue.
The bus timetables and routes are displayed at the beginning of each queue. The buses are fairly regular and the staff are okay. The service 44 running between Hazlerigg and Whitley Bay is never on time.
Advantages: reliable,cheap, Disadvantages: not 24hr
...if you want to enjoy the Geordie nightlife then plan on getting a taxi home.
Also please note that despite it's name, the metro does not run out to the Metro Centre (logic??) so if you want to go there then get a train from Central Station (about 10mins). ...

Advantages: Generally excellent Disadvantages: None to speak of
I have lived in Newcastle for several years now, and I use the taxis regularly when I go out on the weekend. I have generally found them very good, with plenty of companies offering cheap rates and quick service. However, there has been the odd occassion when taxis have failed to turn up. I expect that this is probably the case wherever you live, and there was no particular comapny which was a consistent culprit. Taxi drivers are invariably friendly, ...

Review of Getting around in Newcastle
Advantages: Wide ranging service Disadvantages: Not punctual all the time
The buses running in Newcastle town centre could be improved. I have lived in Newcastle for several years now, and can honestly say that it is a mediocre service. The fares are not cheap, and the buses do not usually arrive on time. However, there are sufficient services available, as they run to most parts of the city and surrounding areas. I would recommend buying one of the discount tickets available upon purchase of a ticket, if you intend to ...

Review of Getting around in Newcastle
Advantages: Very Quick, cheap and punctual Disadvantages: Can be dingy inside
The Metro rail system in Newcastle is an excellent means of travel for the visitor. They are cheap, punctual and plentiful. I have lived in Newcastle for a number of years, and have never had any problems with the Metro. It takes you to all the important areas of the city and is accessible for disabled people and able bodied people alike. If there is a criticism, it would be that the inside of the carriages could be more pleasant, but most are generally ...

Review of Getting around in Newcastle
Advantages: Easy to get around with baby Disadvantages: Sometimes drivers aren't very accomodationg
Stagecoach lowliner buses have been a life saver for me since the birth of my baby 9 months ago. As I can't drive in the early days with a big pram I was a bit isolated where I lived as it was a twenty minute walk to the metro.
Then I discovered low liner buses. Just a short walk to the bus stop I could get anwhere in the city with very little hassle. I just pushed the pram on and the bus is lowered down to the ground.
I am sure they are a god ...

Advantages: Good beaches, relaxed Disadvantages: Alcohol related violence
). For the size of the Newcastle (500'000 people, this should be looked at)
- Binge drinking violence: Newcastle was rated the most violent city in Australia in relation to alcohol related violence. It has gotten so bad that shots of alcohol after 10pm, and there is a 1am curfew where you are unable to get into any clubs.
- Transport: There are no tube systems inNewcastle, and the bus and rail system is sub standard. The best way to getaroundinNewcastle is by personal car
I hope this review helps anyone who visits Newcastlein the near future

Advantages: Comfy, Waited on hand and foot, Food, Showers Disadvantages: Noisy room, spread out, full of stag do's
This is my first mini cruise and we went to amsterdam , there was me, and my friends chris and clare we are all around the 23 year old mark on our first trip to amsterdam, apart from getting to newcastle 1hr before we could check in, ( OUR FAULT). When we did get on board we found our room which had a lovely view of the winch room at the back of the boat so at 8.30 in the morning we had noisy boat staff out there getting ready to moor the boat. The food the evening meal is worth every peeny of the 22.50 euro as the selection is outstanding from cray fish to pasta even the most pickiest of people could have a good meal, and desserts had the best chocolat truffles and there own mr whippy ice cream dispensor. Breakfasts however leave a lot to be desired, the scrambled egg over done, and sausagaes were inch long chippolatas, Nice little ...

The pub is well known for having a big screen television and is often busy when Newcastle United matches are being televised. There are several other sets around the pub incase you can't getin front of the big screen. During the day on the smaller sets tend to be switched on - usually with the sound turned down and are tuned in to various satellite sporting channels.
The Welly has a jukebox which has a fairly wide selection of music to choose from but tends mainly to have stuff I would say appeals to over 30s. There is someone (I don't know who) who frequents the Welly and always puts Thin Lizzy on the jukebox. The general trend seems to be rock orientated with a good sprinkling of classics that everyone knows (Blondie, Van Morrison, UB40, Rolling Stones, Beatles). The jukebox is loud enough but not so loud you can't have ...
