If you’ve been in Newcastle or you live there you will have heard of the Metro system. It’s just like a concentrated version of the London tube. It runs all through the town and right up to the coastline, giving the consumer an easy way of getting about the North. Or so, that’s the principle. The reality however, is much different. Firstly, it’s too expensive. They’ve just hiked up the child fare an incredible 100% making the 25p, and remotely reasonable fare becoming a greedy 50p. A bit steep for one train journey. Now, I wouldn’t object if the train journey was comfortable, but it isn’t. More than not, you’ll find yourself with someone, or rather, some people who make travelling a pain in the ass for the rest of us. They’ll jump about, smoke, and generally act like the ignorant little oiks that they are. Yet Metro still claim that all of their carriages are watched. Hmm, still a big problem. Then, there is often too little seats, delays and dirty carriages to contend with. Still, the Metro will do if you fancy getting somewhere quick…but by no means is it a nice place to be. My advice, take the bus or take something to listen to, so you don’t have to listen to others. Or the annoying ‘Stand Clear Of The Doors Please’ message…that you’ll hear roughly 12 times in a decent journey. Sigh.
