What a fantastic place. The one I went to was at the top of St Martin's Lane just up from Leicester Square tube. I walked past before it opened and spotted the £12 all-you-can-eat sushi buffet, making a mental note to pop-in when it was open. And boy am I glad I did?
What a fantastic place. They have a sushi conveyor belt (a la Yo Sushi), with a reasonable selection of sushi, sashimi, noodles and some Chinese oddities like spare ribs and prawn crackers! The £12 buffet includes different noodles including Soba and Udon, and you can also have Miso soup, too. What great value. There's set menu deals to at £6.50, but being a glutton the buffet deal just had to be done. Normally I end up spend £50-60 in a sushi place, but here the total bill for a belly-load of sushi and a couple of beers came in at under £30. The sushi is high-quality stuff, prepared freshly on the premises.
If you still have a room left for a little something for a sweet trolley they have a selection of Wimpy-style ice-creams and interesting sounding Green Tea Ice Cream. I was too stuffed this time, but I'll definitely be back.

Advantages: The price, theres alot of variety. Disadvantages: The staff can be a bit abrupt and complacent.
I first got introduced to Gili Gulu in 1999! I wasnt a sushi fan (I hadnt had it but its a great start out for non sushi fans) but I became converted from that day.
The restaurant is notthe easiest to find but once you know where it is its a doddle - funny that! Its situated near Seven Dials not far from Covent Garden and some really wicked kitsch clothes shops.
The restaurant looks funky and modern. Its a mass of window which you can have a good ... ...taken alot of people to Gili Gulu, both family and friends, the sucess rate has been around 80% who would go back again. There were a few who didnt love it but hey not everyone is gonna!
For cheap good sushi and other chinese and japanese bits or noodles this is the place for you. The staff are a bit bolshy and abrupt but you still leave feeling full and if your with a group of your mates your guaranteed a good time. ...

Advantages: Price, Choice, Atmosphere Disadvantages: Quality of some items, I wish drinks were cheaper
Gili Gulu is a Japanese/Oriental buffet restaurant. There are two branches in London, one in Bayswater and one in between Leicester Square and Covent Garden (St Martin's Lane), I have only been to the Covent Garden one.
Just by looking into the restaurant, you can see how it works, there are 2 large conveyor belt like tables, and the food swirls around in fron of the diners, and you can take whatever you fancy. The food is served on small dishes ... ...it's needed is fine.
Gili Gulu don't like you taking food and wasting it, and reserve the right to charge you for uneaten food, also they reserve a right to throw you out after 75 minutes, but I have yet to see that happen.
Overall---
It's an excellent resturant, the location and atmosphere is lovely, but the Sushi is lacking a bit (in terms of choice and quality, but it is still very nice), the price of £13-14 (plus drinks and tips) is good, ...

Advantages: £14 deal works out cheap per dish Disadvantages: Below average sushi
I went here for a quick lunch recently and I have to say I wasn't very impressed. It is based on Monmouth Street which is just a hop skip and jump away from Covent Garden - so well placed for workers and tourists alike. Now I am a big sushi lover and was looking forward to going here but the food just didn't compare to almost every other sushi place I have ever been too. Yes its fast, with food constantly available on the moving conveyor belt should ... ...it was particularly cheap for the quality of the food. The service seemed ok but then we were 2 of only 4 people in the place so if service had been slow or rude they would have lost 50% of their customers.
We chose the Eat All You Want deal for £14 - ok value since you can get up to 20 plates per person. I started as I normally would with edamame but this tasted slightly old and not as tasty as I know this dish can be. I then moved on to several ...

Advantages: well price, good selection, well spaced out, clean Disadvantages: staff not that friendly
On entering Gili Gulu I was a bit dissapointed by the nonchalance of the waiters who seemed annoyed by the fact that I was waiting for a few friends. This was most un-welcoming. Nevertheless, Gili Gulu offers an excellent deal: Eat as much as you like (noodles, sushi, sashumi) for £13 or set-menu 1 which includes 5 plates and miso soup or or set-menu 2 which is 2 plates and a bowl of noodles for £7.
The variety that runs along the conveyer belt ... ...and ribs, dumplings, salad and prawn crackers. You can also choose from udon or soba noodles with different flavourings.
The atmosphere is fast-paced, but lively. The lighting is bright but unobtrusive, unlike most sushi bars the tables are well dispersed creating a spacious feel. The background is filled with some FM station and a bit of MTV.
On the whole this sushi bar offers you excellent value for money. The food is good and you can be sure ...

Advantages: Best bargain - Unlimited sushis ! Disadvantages: Quality could be improved
Gili Gulu is the best deal for sushi-fans with a HUGE appetite : £12 for eat-as-much-as-you-like sushis !
If the quality is not as good as at Yo Sushi!'s, it nevertheless remains more than very acceptable (best bet is to only pick salmon sushis).
For the non-sushi lovers, there are unlimited team Ramen and Noodles as well.
Service is friendly, and the atmosphere is definitely "MTV Japan" : lively, bright and clean.
Perfect for a late Saturday ...
