Located between Leicester Sq and Covent Garden near Stringfellows, its starting price for 75mins of buffet is £13.
If theres ever a time you're in desperate need of cheap oriental food(sushi and abit of cold chinese food), then this place is right for you. Only difference between Gili Gulu and many infamous chains of Mr Wu is that the food goes around on a belt rather than left in a pot for your to help yourselves to.
Thats not to say food here is dirty and unclean, the similarities are that there are no such thing as service! Seeing as the place is ran by chinese people(not Japanese), their staffs are all mandarin speaking people, who have no idea what catering service means or how to provide one. Once you order tea, you'll be guaranteed not to see it refilled again unless you went and did it yourself, while all the staffs are happy standing about chatting to one and another. That includes anything else you order, they'll more than likely forget about it, you'll see your glass of coke left on the counter for ages until a staff picks it up.
Food itself is a abit of a mixed bag, yes there are traditional salmon sushi and squids, and other fish delights. But the cuttings are thin, and you'll find odd dishes of cold chinese food ranging from spring rolls, spare ribs, fried noodles to prawn crackers on the belt.
I generally believe in tipping for good service, but this place has the nerve to add service charge automatically to the bill, without providing any!
Unless you know your japanese food and restaurants, you'll be fooled by this place; its ran by Chinese people who so happens to know abit of sushi making!
Added note: Thats not to say all chinese people or restaurants cannot provide good catering service, its just this particular one can't.
