There's SNO! Place Better Than SNO!zone
Advantages: indoor snow slope, fun Disadvantages: can be expensive
Scotland is well known as a winter sports destination but the Central Belt of Scotland receives hardly any of the white stuff. Spending days sledging was one of my favourite activities as a child but since my kids have only experienced one winter with a lot of snow they have not had that same experience so as a Christmas treat I decided to book a family sledging experience at the Sno!zone within Xscape in Glasgow. Of course I booked weeks in advance ... ...decades so they have had lots of chance to play in the snow this year but they still enjoyed their day out. Sno!Zone is a fantastic indoor ski slope in the Xscape leisure complex near Braehead in Glasgow, the main slope is 200m long and has 17000 tonnes of real snow on the slopes. The Xscape complex is brilliant, it is a huge building with the snow slopes, cinema, bowling, crazy golf, amusement arcades, shops and dozens of places to eat and drink ...

MJ Heraghty's - My Most Favourite Bar Ever - Now, What'll It Be?
Advantages: Friendly, Excellent Service, Warm Ambiance, Distinct Lask of Poseurs Disadvantages: None - Is Anyone Able to Babysit for Me?
Ah! Heraghty's - my favourite pub in Glasgow, if not in the whole world. And I say this despite, or perhaps because of, the fact that it was within the confines of this small, even pokey (and in those days very smoky) southside hostelry that I first met my husband. Heraghty's is situated on the busy Pollokshaws Road, near its junction with Nithsdale Street and Allison Street. A "proper" Irish bar, in that it doesn't advertise itself as such, there ... ...after Michael J Heraghty in its current incarnation, it has been run by the Heraghty family for over 30 years now. Small but perfectly formed it has an elegant Edwardian gantry, a beautiful stained glass window above the door and unusual etched glass windows. There is a traditional wooden bar running along the length of the left-hand side of the interior, complete with those little hooks under the bar to hang your jacket/bag on. Down the right hand ...

Queen's Park - Lots to See and Do Whatever the Weather!
Advantages: Cafe, Indoor Area, Reptile House, Pro-Active Management, Superb views of Glasgow and Beyond Disadvantages: Dubious reputation after dark
...park we visit most often; Queen's Park. Queen's Park hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons last year and it was closed to the public for several weeks. It was missed massively by the local population, and fears that the people would not use the park following the incident were completely unfounded, when they returned in their droves following its reopening. Queen's Park is situated in the Southside of Glasgow and the avenue of trees at its ... ...and then in Glasgow) that Queen's Park really does come into its own. The Glasshouses within the park are a superb FREE facility which is open 7 days a week and on public holidays. They can be very busy on rainy Sunday afternoons and are a great meeting place for parents with small children. Within the Glasshouses you can find the following: * Display houses with exotic plants, succulents, cacti etc * Reptiles, insects, birds and rodents - our favourites ...

Hampden - the Home of Football
Advantages: A world class stadium, historic, excellent atmosphere on most occasions Disadvantages: Some seats a fair distance from pitch, traffic congestion for local residents
Hampden is Scotland's National Stadium and the home ground for Queens Park Football Club, the oldest Scottish football club and currently the only amateur club in the Scottish League. Built in 1903, Hampden is often referred to as the home of football. It is here that the Scotland National Team play their home games. Location
Situated in the South East of Glasgow, in the Mount Florida area, Hampden is easily accessible by all modes of transport. ... ...from the city centre to Hampden but this will take in the region of an hour. In the Vicinity
The Mount Florida area is a "dry" area in the main - there are not that many licenced premises in which to imbibe pre-event. There are a few pubs; The Clockwork, Florida Park and the Beechwood are handy- but check before hand in case they are operating on a ticket/regulars only basis. However, a stones throw away, on Victoria Road there are a number ...

For the Country in the City - Pollok Country Park
Advantages: Free Entry, Open All Year, Beautiful, Lots to See and Do Disadvantages: None Whatsoever!
...of the largest parks is Pollok Country Park. Situated in the southside of the city, just three miles from the city centre, it was voted Best Park in Britain in 2007 and then went on to be crowned Europe's Best Park in 2008. It's a large park at over 360 acres, so even when the sun is splitting the sky (which does happen in Glasgow, you know!), it never feels crowded and you can always find a wee quiet spot for yourself. Where is it and how do ... ...to the Burrell Collection and Pollok House. The park is always open and entry is free. So what can you see?
HIGHLAND CATTLE
The park has its own herd of Highland Cattle which it breeds. There are always some of these very photogenic beasts at the roadside; at the right time of year the cutest calves are in the fields too. If cattle are your thing, Pollok Country Park also hosts the City of Glasgow International Highland Cattle Show ...
