I am lucky that I have family in Calgary and have visited this wonderful city and region many times. Each visit is not complete without a trip to the Glen bow museum, which is situated downtown. You would think that I would have had enough but there never is enough. The curators of this store of knowledge are constantly changing and introducing new and informative exhibits, that, show you all there is to know about the history of this region. From thought provoking histories of European families that first settled this alien and inhospitable region, to, sympathetic and well researched insights into the indigenous people who were there before the settlers ever came. The museum hits an even balance never seeming to take sides in this story of history. It provides the visitor with a mass of information in a fun and well thought out manner- each display leads you to the next with well laid out "back track routes" that mean you can nip back to your favourite displays, should the rest of your group be a bit slower than you. The displays vary from Indian encampments and hunting scenes to full scale railroad models. which have either been donated or painstakingly sought from the whole of Canada . It really is a colourful and rich experience for any visitor to spend an afternoon soaking up. If you are lucky you may be attending on a days that includes workshops or a cultural event, which they seem to be doing all the time. On several occasions I have endeavoured to make dream catchers and jewellery (which you can keep or donate to the museum) and on one special occasion I actually took part in a native Indian dance on fertility ,which was an experience to say the least. In all it is a great day out for all the family.

I only spent 3 days in Calgary before travelling through the Rockies to Vancouver. I managed to pack in quite a few of the main tourist sights though. The Calgary Tower is worth a visit, standing at 207m high. From there you get great views over the City. It is located on 9th Avenue, together with the Glenbowmuseum and Fort Calgary. The Glenbowmuseum is superb and features mock ups of all aspects of Calgary's history together with a hands on section for kids.
A really good place to visit is the 1988 Winter Olympic Park. We took a taxi out there which cost about £12. However, I would suggest getting the train to the University and then ...

into the West. While in Calgary, check out the GlenbowMuseum. Here, you can see many Native artifacts or learn about the history of the settlers. You can also see many works done by Canadian Artists. Checkout the Calgary Tower. Although quite smaller than most towers these days, the Calgary tower provides the whole view of the city. You can also dine at the Rotating Restaraunt in the tower where you can get a 360 degree view of the city while enjoying your meal. Looking for thrills? Then go to the Calaway Park. Calaway park is a amusement park where they have an array of roller coasters and rides. If you want, check out the Calgary Zoo where they have many animals on display. And for the skiier, go to the COP (Canadian Olympic Park) which was created for the 1988 Winter Olympic games. There you can ski and hit the white pack snow. (http://www.visitor.calgary ...
