Advantages: A great way to do something that scared you Disadvantages: You may get lost before you get there!
8 friends and I visited go ape in June 2007. We had a fab day together despite getting lost and fighting against our fears!

Advantages: Fun filled family day, good laugh, lovely settings Disadvantages: Quite expensive but worth every penny.
...the left, this is one go ape is based at.
Make sure you put old clothes on that you don't mind getting dirty or ripped (this didn't happen to us though).
You sign a disclaimer and then get a 30 min safety talk on the harnesses. There is a lot to take in but you have to listen so you know how to harness up correctly wehn you are on your own. They do a small example to watch that you are doing everything correctly and then you're left to your own ... ...around the course though if you need any help.
There are zip slides (which you land on your bottom if your'e not quick enough with your feet), cargo nets, swinging bridges, rope ladders and a few other things. My husband loved it! It is high up in the trees so if you are scared of heights you may have to think about whether you want to do it or not. You must be at least 4ft 7 and not over 18 stone (I think!)
It took us about 2 and a half hours ...

Advantages: Great fun for an older family. Unforgettable. Disadvantages: Unsuitable for children under 10 & under a certain height.
The best ever day out!
If you want to get the whole family together doing one activity, this is the perfect one!
They say to allow 3 hours to do the course in but it only takes most people about two and a half.
It gives you that huge adrenelin rush - up trees high above the floor.
If you are looking for an activity to do as a family, but have difficult teenagers, this is perfect. It also works as a teambuilding exercise - and will bring the family ... ...£20/teenager, it was well worth it.
Wear old clothes incase they get ripped/dirty, but I could have worn my new jeans as this wasn't an issue at all.
You are in charge of your own safety and ropes, and are briefed accordingly - this gives you extra freedom and independence, a huge advantage.
I would highly recommend this as it's an unforgettable experience! ...

Advantages: Beautifyl, relaxing, adverturous, loved it! Disadvantages: Having to go home back to reality.
Tess (after our dog). The little ones loved the World of Beatrix Potter and the Aquarium of the lakes, although for older children they might not keep their interest for long. The grand parents looked after the kids one day and we all went mountain biking to explore the Lakes. We took a leisurely trip across Lake Windermere on a Lake cruises, which was lovely (although take a cardigan as it is colder than you'd expect). The boys enjoyed a spot of fishing and golf while us girls went shopping in Ambleside and Kendal. Finally there was GoApe at Grizedaleforest which everyone enjoyed, although it was takeaway that evening cause we were all to tired to move.
We had an unbelievably adventurous, fun holiday at White Cross Bay and will definitely be returning in the near future.

Advantages: Great Great Holiday Disadvantages: I can't wait to try others now!
always forget, and a great restaurant on-site for a relaxing, delicious evening meal.
During our week stay there really was so much for us to do. We went to the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, which I absolutely loved and ended up sponsoring a tiger called Tess (after our dog). , such as the Beatrix Potter shop and Kirkstone Pass. If you go for a drive, try and get to Hodge Close, near Coniston- it's breathtaking up there. It is off the beaten track and not many people know where it is, but it is beautiful. Grizedaleforest national park is a ten min drive away, where you can go on the GoApe tree top activity (www.goape.co.uk)

I worked there as a Wedding/Conference planner and left there to give birth to my son so I am giving the review from a staff perspective. The majority of guests that come through the doors at The Swan Hotel are looking for a relaxing, tranquil break. Overall, if you are coming to the area for a break, The Swan Hotel is one of the best hotels in the area (thats just my opinion though!)
The village of Newby Bridge itself is very peaceful and the Hotel is 8 miles from ...
