Goa was everything we wanted from a holiday - relaxing, great sun, great food, fantastic beaches and above all - cheap!
We arranged our holiday separately and not through a package operator, but that's because we were recommended an accommodation provider called Lazydays in Goa (website: www.lazydays.co.uk), who have on their books various villas and appartments that are individual, have character and are very comfortable.
We chose a villa called Queros Manzil, which had 2 double bedrooms and air-con - which we think is pretty essential in April, when we went.
Because it was a villa rather than a hotel room, my boyfriend who suffered from jetlag could watch TV, read books and make himself a snack in the kitchen whilst I slept undisturbed in the bedroom - and vice versa.
The accommodation was very clean and comfortable and we were met at the airport by the villa owner's driver then at villa by Sue, one of the 2 women who run Lazydays in Goa itself. She had lots of hints and tips and was very helpful.
We ate mainly at the shacks, which do great cheap food and usually provide sunbeds for free. Try the king prawns - delicious.
In the evenings, we usually went to try other things, and often treated ourselves to an good meal in an air-con restaurant - they cost about the same as a meal in England. In Candolim, there is the Fort Aguada Beach Resort and in Baga, there is Le Restaurant (which is not air-con but does great food).
The beaches are very long, but the sea is choppy. Also try the Baga saturday night market and the bigger Arpora one on Weds - great shopping - and HAGGLE!
However there was a lack of things to do - so if you want more than just lying on the beach you might struggle. And a lack of things to sight-see. We didn't go out on the town either, so can't comment on that.
All in all, a great relaxing holiday - though I'd say a week is enough.
