We tried and tested many restaurants in North Goa near Baga.
Deli Darbar - Panjim An exclusive restaurant which was recommended by our First Choice rep and also our Taxi driver. It is located in the capital city of Goa in Panjim (aka Panaji). Once outside, you are greeted by a doorman dressed in a very authentic suit that reminded me of indian guards with a turban and long white moustache. The decor inside is very posh with rich golds and reds in the seating fabrics and red drapes on the walls. In the far back is the brightly lit bar where the drinks are served from. I clearly remember the large bottle of whiskey sitting on the counter, a blue light feature and wine glasses hanging from the ceiling. The choice of food and drinks in the menu is vast. We were spoilt for choice and not knowing when we were going to come again, we wanted to try everything. When we first
went there, it was lunchtime and even then it was very busy. The service was exceptional. We ordered some starters which are then served into your plate by the waiter. Regarding the food, the starters were amazing. We had kebabs, chilli fry fish, paneer tikka (cottage cheese) and chicken tikka. Whilst we were eating away, the waiter came over and took our photo using a digital camera. It puzzled us at first but then he came back with our photo in a small paper frame and an envelope. A very nice touch. The ladies were given a rose each. The price is cheap compared to UK but slightly more expensive than other restaurants. When you walk in you do wonder if you can afford it. The toilets are very clean and posh. There was incense burning giving a subtle fragrance in the air. A lady offers you the soap and even opens the tap for you to wash your hands. By far, the best service we experienced on our holiday.
All Spice - Arpora / Baga Another restaurant that was highly recommended by other holiday makers in our resort. It was about 7minutes walking distance from our resort so very convenient. Everytime we drove past, it was very busy with people at the bar waiting to be seated. Service was very good and the food choice was vast giving a choice that would suit everyone. The decor was very simple like an open shak with a roof above. Most restuarants have fans to keep the mosquitos away but somehow they always manage to attack. But not here! It wasn't until I looked under the table I noticed a burning incense that we were told later was to keep mosuitos away. Price was again very reasonable. We paid about £22 for 4 people which included beers, cocktails, starters and main course.
Aubergine - Arpora / Baga Very convenient for us as again it was 5minutes walk from the resort we were staying in. A liking to many but I would favour All Spice than this restaurant. Even though it was normally busy, the service was very slow. We waited about 20minutes for our bill to arrive. Choices in the menu that would suit many including a large selection of seafood.
Brittos - Baga Beach A large restaurant on the beach, half situated indoors and the rest facing the sea. Quite dark when you first walk in but very busy. This had a huge selection of traditonal english meals like steak and kidney pie, chicken and mushroom pie with chips, roast dinner and mouthwatering desserts. I opted for the fish tikka which came with very tasty chips and a refreshing salad. My husband and brother had fish. There is a seafood counter which is where you can select what you want and tell the chef how you want it cooked. They had a Kingfish each, one which was BBQ and the other curried. Served with chips and salad. Tasted amazing and I would highly recommend it. Great food, lovely atmosphere and good service.
Souza Lobo - Calangute Beach Another restaurant that had been recommended for the Tiger Prawns and that is exactly what was ordered. Lovely decor with half of the restaurant on the beach itself. I wasn't too pleased with the chicken tikka or the chips but my husband was extremely happy with his Tiger Prawns with garlic butter sauce served with chips and salad. We saw whole grilled Kingfish being served to other diners and that looked very tasty. Another restaurant that was very reasonably priced.
Marinah Dourada Resort - Arpora / Baga This was the name of the resort we stayed in and the food here was superior. Due to convenience this is where we dined the most trying different dishes everytime. You are seated outdoors in the Veranda and normally have a live band playing with some entertainment. Prices were very slightly more than restaurants in the surrounding areas but that was reflected on the high quality of the food. Highly recommended.
