I'm 52, grandmother of 9, poet, wannabe writer, breed Nubian goats, and am going to start making soaps and fudge from my goat milk eventually. I'd like to become semi self -sufficient; I have planted numerous fruit trees and keep chickens for eggs.

I've booked a fair bit of travel through "Going Places" when I was living in England, and have always found them to be helpful and efficient. I'm a self -confessed cheapie and found out a pretty sly trick. I find the lowest price for my trip on the internet, then go in to "Going Places"and ask them to match it. Usually, they can to within a tenner!
My husband and I took a 3 day tour to Amsterdam - nice but basic hotel, ferry and train travel included and a couple of trips. 2 people, cost me like £159 each. Not bad.
Then, when I was coming back to live in the United States, I went in to see about my QE2 booking. I don't fly, so I have to suffer the indignities of sailing across the Atlantic - gourmet food, activities, steward turning down the bed of a night and leaving chocolates on my pillow. terrible life, isn't it? The brochure price was like £1800 for a single cabin. No way could I pay that! I got it (including taxes and port charges) for £958. Just over half. And it was a 7 day crossing instead of 5, as there was a stopover in Amsterdam!
What I used to like, but I know they don't do any more, was that they gave you TESCO Clubcard points which I used to save up for day trips out and money off my groceries.
The service was always good. The assistants were friendly and helpful. Kings Lynn has 2 branches and they both deserve a thumbs up.

Very practical and useful information. I am flattered about your comment to my Istanbul review. Thanks for the great feedback! Reading that you don't fly, I am even more impressed you included me in your circcle of trust, since most of my reviews deal with airtravel. Maybe I can help to build some trust in flying?!

I was put off using Going Places as a travel agent when I was almost press-ganged into accepting a holiday. The assistant was very insistent and would barely let me out of the shop! I'm glad you've had better experiences than I!
