I was very unimpressed with Going Places when we tried their services recently. My partner and I wanted book a holiday over Christmas and the New Year this year for ourselves and our 10 year old son, and we had a very good idea of where we wanted to go (4 star hotel in either Paphos, Cyprus or the Canaries) and a total budget of under £2k. Despite explaining all this and specifying that we could only fly within certain dates, the girl at their Liverpool Bold Street Branch who dealt with our enquiry was unable to find us anything which came even close to fitting the bill. The first holiday she found for us was 3.2k, and it didn't really get much better. When after 15 minutes the best she could manage to turn up was a 3 star hotel still well over budget at £2.5k, we'd had enough and made our excuses and left.
Finding it hard to believe that all the reasonably priced accommodation was already booked up for this year's festive season, we then decided to try a small independent outfit, Wardle Travel in St John's Precinct Liverpool, in the hope of having more success. The staff in Wardle's bent over backwards help us, and very quickly found us a holiday in Paphos with Libra which exactly met our requirements for around £1600 - in a hotel which we had specifically requested Going Places to check availability for, as it was our first choice of hotel, and we had been told that there was nothing available! Needless to say, Wardle Travel got our business.
The impression we came away with from this experience was that the member of staff we dealt with at Going Places had more interest in selling us one of their own overpriced packages than finding us a good deal, and in future we will be giving them a miss when shopping round for holidays.

I have won £150 worth of Going Places vouchers but they are not enough on there own to get anything so I guess I'll have to make up the rest - it's annoying when you can see really cheap stuff on lastminute.com

Welcome to Ciao, a great first opinion. We had a similar experience with them lately when looking at prices for next year. we was told £2700 for a fortnight stay self catering with two adults and two children. Elsewhere we found the same holiday for well under £2000 which is quite a difference. The best advice is definately to shop around, Keep up the good work,Anna
