We were picked up from Preston on October 6th 2006. I was dreading the journey as I am exremely travel sick and there was Force 7 Gales forecast for the Dover crossing to Calais. The drivers were great, they made everyone feel comfortable and relaxed, cracking jokes with travellers and checking on me to make sure I was ok. They played DVD's and music on the coach and the time passed quicker than expected. The sea crossing was horrendous, but the weather can't be blamed on the company. In Ostend the drivers again were always about so you could ask questions if need be. We bumped into them shopping on the Saturday and introduced them to Belgium Waffles with Chocolate and fresh cream, they were like children eating ice cream, it was everywhere. The hotel was brilliant, really nice staff and the breakfast had lovely fresh breads and croissants daily. (See my review for the Ambassadeur Hotel in Ostend). We were 3 girls having a weekend away, and it was worth every penny apart from the journey being so long. We also called at the Belgian Chocolate Factory and Calais Booze Cash & Carry on the way home, get your tobacco products in Ostend before you leave, as Calais is expensive. Ostend is a nice place to visit, small bars and millions of wonderful chocolate and cake shops. The beer festival is a short journey to Diksmuide, approx 25 mins. The beers are very strong so don't go mad, you buy tokens (1 token =1 beer) we spent 8 euros on tokens and was pickled. Everyone wears silly hats and some are in fancy dress, the festival is a MUST SEE event. Will definately be going again next year.
