(+) Beautiful beach hotel in the most buzzing area of Dubai! (-) There is still construction surrounding the hotel, but everywhere has to start somewhere.
Advantages: Selection is great, prices- the cheapest or one of the cheapest in the World. Disadvantages: Too many small shops and traipsing through all of them can be tiresome.
...Travel :- The Gold Souk is in the Deira part of Dubai. If you happen to be staying in Bur Dubai you can take either a bus or a taxi to the Gold Souk. As it is so famous you need not tell the driver the location, he will take you there. From Bur Dubai the easiest way to go is through the Al Shindaga tunnel as you will have to cross the Creek. If you are staying in Deira, it might be either walkable or a short cab drive away. Plenty of local maps are ... ...you with one. When visiting the Gold souk it is also worthwhile to step into the nearby fish market which is really huge and displays a wide array of fish, prawns and crabs(you will be surprised at their different colours).
In the gold souk there is loads to walk so tired legs are inevitable at the end of the day.
Prices/Money exchange:- The price of gold is fixed for the day and tend to change from day to day-albeit slightly, in response to the ...

Advantages: lots of gold, reasonably cheap prices, shopping heaven Disadvantages: tired feet as there are SO MANY SHOPS!
...5 minute walk for the Gold Souk. With the intention of maybe buying one piece of gold jewellery I actually ended up buying a whole lot more! GOLD SOUK EXPERIENCE
The thing about the Gold Souk is that there are lines and lines of gold shops, the gold in the showcases resembles a candy shop window, from bangles to necklaces the choice is endless. Designs can be traditional or modern, bold or conservative, chunky or delicate if you have it in mind ... ...into consideration when visiting the Gold Souk is haggle, haggle and haggle you have to otherwise you will not get the best price. The gold in Dubai is very cheap but by haggling you will be sure to get a very reasonalbe deal. Try convincing the jeweller that if you were to buy two items then you should get a discount. If they refuse you if will not last long as soon as you say you will look elsewhere they will change their minds and if they don't ...

Advantages: The lifeline of Dubai. Disadvantages: Crossing the Creek at peak hours is a nightmare.
...Dubai Creek has been the focal point in the developmet of Dubai since the past100-150 years. Dubai was very famous for pearl trade and the Creek was instrumental in making Dubai a very famous port.
The Creek is about 14km long and divides Dubai into Bur Dubai and Deira. The best way to see the Creek is aboard a Dhow, which is the name given for the traditional boat. Smaller water taxis called Abra are also available to cross from one side to the other . The Shindaga Tunnel is the Tunnel which was built under the creek in the 60's to enable quick and easy access to the most thriving part of Dubai, the GoldSouk. Both the GoldSouk and the spice souk lie on the deira side of the creek.
The Al Makhtoum bridge crosses the Creek and traffic across it is horrendous.
Most Dhow cruises which attract a lot of visitors begin in one...

Advantages: Great weather, clean beaches, great food, tax free port Disadvantages: it can become extremly hot in the afternoons from april to september
...of the arabian way of life, tons of shopping stores and the airport was incredibly clean. The weather was just as I had expected, we had arrived at 2pm and the temperature was 25 degrees.
Once we left the airport though we cancelled the plan to take a rest at the hotel and instead went off for sightseeing and more importantly to do some SHOPPING!
There are two parts to Dubai, the old part, Deira Dubai and the new part which connsists of new shopping centres, places to live etc. In between both part is the river and you can commute from one side to the other by abras (water boats) a ride on one of these is something like 20p. Even if you are prone to seasickness a ride on one of these will leave you feeling tranquil and peaceful.
We set off to the world famous GoldSouk, situated in Deira Dubai, where you will find nothing but GOLD...

Advantages: weather, culture, beaches, very cheap taxis especially if you haggle, the markets, the food and drink! Disadvantages: will need to travel around quite a bit to experience everything, it can get extremely hot even at night, some locals can be a bit rude,
...I went with my in-laws and unfortunately they prefered to sit on the beach all day otherwise I think Dubai would be a fantastic place to explore. One trip you have to make is to the GoldSouk - the biggest collection of gold jewellery i have ever seen - some of the necklaces would reach down to your knees with the sheer size! Also, the various markets dotted around are well worth a visit - get your haggling skills sharpened though!
The architecture of Dubai and indeed surrounding places such as Abu Dabi is extraordinary. The 7* hotel looks amazin from far away and there was a business hotel opposite our hotel that had glass lifts which was a little scary going in! Especially 24 floors up!
The food is delicious but quite similar to England. I went to a noodle bar that served the best noodles i think i have ever had and i have found...

A lot can happen in a space of a few years but never more so than in Dubai; it's currently a massive construction site but in the nicest sort of way! The last time I visited Dubai in 2002, I stayed at Oasis Beach Hotel in Jumeirah. At that time the... more
The Burj-Al-Arab (Arabian Tower) is Dubai and the UAE's answer to the landmark symbols of other countries, they compare it to the Eiffel tower (it's slightly taller by virtue of its mast) and other icons.
The Burj is said to be the world's only 7 star more
