its wake followed a platoon of hawkers - drink, sun-tan lotion, drugs, beach mats, coconuts, trinkets, double glazing (alright not the last one) - it was like some bizarre reversal of a supermarket where the customer stands there and all the shop pass before them. One general 'no thanks' and stern shake of the head should have been enough but unfortunately the ritual had to be repeated eight times (did the strange design on my tee-shirt really say 'I am stupid. I buy anything. I see your beach as a wonderful shopping opportunity. Of course I came to the beach with nothing. Lets haggle, beach boy'?) Agadir

Advantages: Great markets and food
Disadvantages: Harrassment from locals depending on time of year you go

I think Morocco is an acquired taste. I went to Agadir with my mum for a 2 week break (leaving from Glasgow) during the month of December. I chose to go then because I knew it would be a bit quieter. It was my second visit to Morocco, the first having been to the north in the early 80s with my identical twin sister. As my twin and I are both red heads that caused quite a stir among the locals who would constantly ask us if we'd dyed our hair with Henna (and why we were so white!!!). I had a bad experience on my first day down at the beach in Agadir with my mum when a really rude carpet seller just wouldn't take no for an answer. Luckilly for us a friendly local intervened. He was very decent and actually gave us lots of good advice about how to get to more remote, less touristy places. The town of Agadir is split into 2 areas ...

Atlantica Golden Beach Hotel - Golden all the way

Advantages: All inclusive with great food, no kids, great staff
Disadvantages: None

We wanted to have a break away just the two of us without our kids and knew we wanted an all inclusive break. After much deliberation we decided to try the Atlantica Golden Beach and were not disappointed. This is a Thomson Gold Hotel and we received Gold service from the minute we booked. Everyone was so friendly. When we arrived into Paphos airport we were quickly shown to our bus and because it is a Gold hotel you are dropped off first. The Manager and staff were there to greet us with drinks and a short information session about where restaurants, bars, facilities were. We had upgraded our room to a Double Superior and this meant that we were guaranteed a sea view along with a bottle of wine, fruit, bathrobes, slippers, television, cd player and canopy over our large double bed.
