Many of you who might have read some of my previous opinions will be aware that I travel to West Africa quite frequently and one of the destinations that I visit most is Accra in Ghana.
When travelling to Africa in general one of the most important decisions you must make is the hotel that you intend to stay in.
You need a place that provides you with comfortable rooms, clean food and water, entertainment and security.
My hotel of choice is the GoldenTulip Accra Hotel.

Advantages: Peaceful, lovely pool, helpful staff, nice rooms Disadvantages: Middle of nowhere, food not brilliant.

Problems were solved in a friendly way, though lack of English made things difficult (i.e. we needed more toilet paper and could not make this understood on the phone, staff had to come round and see what we meant). Restaurant service was very attentive, with plates cleared/drinks offered promptly.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel as a relaxing, pleasant and reasonably priced place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Dubai/Abu Dhabi. There is nothing to do nearby so you need transport, however, they are building a new international airport at AlJazira and a Palm development is under construction nearby, so in a year or so this should be in a more happening area. For now though, it's a little oasis of peace. ...

The Dutch are famous for many things - cheese, clogs, a relaxed attitude to controlled substances and prostitution, little boys saving towns by sticking their fingers in dykes and of course the bulbfields. What they aren't famous for - and no wonder - is great hotels and hospitality. Of all the countries I travel to, Holland is one place where I can almost guarantee to be disappointed by a hotel - and the GoldenTulip in Zaandam really did live down to all my expectations.
Why was I there?
Oh I keep asking myself that. What fate sent me to such a god-forsaken down-market crappy Dutch hotel? On the plus side, it's only for one night but on the down side, surely somebody could have found something better than this.
