Now not taking into account my 12hour journey on coach to the Hague, when we arrived at the GoldenTulip, for the price we had paid we were expecting a travel lodge of some kind, however much to our surprise the hotel looked very well presented with all glass windows at the front, looking into an exceptional reception area.
The reception had all marble floors, to the right of you you had a bar with a well spacious lounge area and to the right 4 lifts to all floors.
Considering there was a coach load of us, reception were very firendly and very quick in getting us all checked in and allocated to our rooms.
All the lifts worked to all floors and upon entering the room, it was very bright, spacious, with a king sized bed and everything that you required for your stay, hairdryer, television with sky, tea and coffe making facilities ...

The Dutch are famous for many things - cheese, clogs, a relaxed attitude to controlled substances and prostitution, little boys saving towns by sticking their fingers in dykes and of course the bulbfields. What they aren't famous for - and no wonder - is great hotels and hospitality. Of all the countries I travel to, Holland is one place where I can almost guarantee to be disappointed by a hotel - and the GoldenTulip in Zaandam really did live down to all my expectations.
Why was I there?
Oh I keep asking myself that. What fate sent me to such a god-forsaken down-market crappy Dutch hotel? On the plus side, it's only for one night but on the down side, surely somebody could have found something better than this.
