Golders Hill Park, or the Hampstead Heath Extension, is a relatively large park (although not when compared to the Heath itself, unsurprisingly), which is more Golders Green than Hampstead and a lot more 'manageable' than the Heath. It isn't the kind of park you can get lost in (unlike the Heath which I manage to get lost in, almost every time I go!). It is certainly more of a 'landscaped' park than the Heath, it has a little flower garden, and some ... ...not staggeringly exceptional. Golders Hill Park is a great place to go to if you are in North London, probably better for children than the Heath because it is a smaller, 'bite-sized' version. It doesn't have any of the wildness of the Heath and the pleasure you get from the views or the strolling through the woods in the Heath, but it is a still a great way to spend an afternoon! Advantages: Varied attractions, good cafe, next to Hampstead Heath Disadvantages: can get crowded during summer
This is one of the most varied parks in London, yet as it is away from central London it is often overlooked.
The reasons for why it is special are many. For a start there is a varied menagerie of llamas, goats, deer and birds such as emus, rhea, flamingoes etc which will take up some of your time.
Then there are many ponds with much to admire about them, there is abundant birdlife ( I don't know about fish!). The park is not too large and although ... ...20 minutes to walk from one side to the other.
If you are into sports, this is a good place for you. There are many tennis courts (grass and all-weather surface) and a putting green. There is also ample space for you to play football.
If you are just the wandering type there is a nature trail plus a pergola section and the ponds which i have mentioned before. If you still feel in need of a wander, Hampstead Heath and the heath extension are right ...
