Whether you're a student or a VIP guest, you can enjoy Gose here, Leipzig's traditional beer, in a typical local atmosphere. In fact, according to connoisseurs, who have placed it among the 400 best pubs for beer in Germany, there's no doubt about this. The tavern is over a hundred years old and has been reconstructed in its original form with its Biedermeier period room and its club lounge, as well as its large beer garden. The menu consists mainly of old Saxon specialities, but also a selection of smaller meals, as well as all sorts of top-fermented beers, ranging from wine Gose to Gose with Kirsch (cherry) liquor.
Advantages: Culture, Sport Disadvantages: Nightlife

Advantages: class and comfort Disadvantages: slightly pricey for long stays
...You'll see the Westin in Leipzig even from the air! With its 27 floors it is one of the most imponent building in the city, conveniently located 5 minutes walk from the main train station and just 10 minutes walk from the city centre and the shopping area. It has recently gone through extensive renovations and the results are impressive. A massive lobby with lots of seats, 2 bars, friendly and extremely professional staff. The rooms are very comfortable and very very clean. The room service is excellent and the breakfast is absolutely impressive! There is a splendid bar on the 27th floor and the view is breath-taking. Excellent value for money if you wish to enjoy class and comfort to explore one of the most beautiful cities in Germany....

Advantages: Cheap and easy to get there Disadvantages: Limited flights and times
...Leipzig is found in the Saxony region of East Germany and was in the former GDR. Since the wall came down Leipzig has lost about 200,000 inhabitants, leaving about 400,000, and has also undergone considerable regeneration. 2006 sees the city host some of the early stage World Cup matches at their large sports stadium. Although none of the England games will be played there, the World Cup puts Leipzig firmly on the world football map.

Direct flights are also available from Lufthansa and BMi but are far more expensive. The only drawbacks with Air Berlin are flying from Stanstead and the return flight time. Flights leave Stanstead at around 8.00pm but the return flights are 6.00am. However...
