OVERALL:
Tasty, tasty burgers, presented well, with a really nice atmosphere!
FOOD:
This is why you come here: burgers. These burgers are large, cooked to order, and really nicely presented. Often burgers or sandwiches can be made at some places very sloppily, they fall apart. Here, they are well made and it looks like someone actually cares about what they're serving you.
As far as variety, there are veggie options and plenty of meat and chicken burgers to find on the menu. I got the Kiwi burger, something I hadn't had for years (not since in Oz, where they serve them the same way) with an egg and beetroot on it. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it's nice to have the variety beyond simple cheddar and bacon, right?
PRICES
This is, for me, the definition of value-for-money. In West Hampstead you can't expect a bargain really, so this is about as good as it gets for a burger. With the average around 7 or 8 quid, plus 2.50 for a bowl of chips (to share), it's not too bad for a sit-down meal. Wine is reasonably priced by the bottle, a little more by the glass. For £15 you can get a more than reasonable red wine bottle with your meal.
ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE
The staff here were really friendly, and kept making sure we were topped up with tap water and that our wine was suitable. They also didn't appear to be in a rush to get us going anywhere, but were attentive at taking things away as we finished.
It was not busy when I was eating at GBK, but I get the impression that I can get rather busy. There's an outdoor area, where I ate, that is nice, not too loud as far as traffic noise from West End Lane, and the indoor area is clean and well presented.
Also of note, the bathrooms were very clean, and nicely done. I find going to the 'loo can be a real downpoint in some nice restaurants, but here the standard was kept even in the toilets!
Verdict: I'll be returning, for sure!
