Grains Bar Farm Hotel, Oldham

Advantages: Comfortable Accommodation at a Reasonable price, Convenient for Manchester, Leisure Facilities, Oldham's only 4 star hotel
Disadvantages: Some service aspects a little disappointing, immediate location not great, tired bathroom

...The Avant Hotel in Oldham is operated by Menzies Hotels, a small chain of approximately 16 hotels in the UK who have established themselves as a credible four star hotel operator since their inception in 1992. Like the other main hotel in the area, the Swallow Bower, the Avant is marketed as Manchester East, not Oldham and indeed it is a very suitable location for a visit to Manchester, as it is only about five miles from the City Centre itself, and only a mile from J22 of the M60. Our destination was in fact in the other direction, to a restaurant on Saddleworth Moor, for the second big family occasion in Greater Manchester in as many weeks, and for us the Avant proved to be the most logical hotel for ourselves, in an area which does not have a huge amount of choice, hotel wise. ...As part of a job I accepted I had to undergo a weeks training course, which meant that accomodation was on offer in Manchester. I already lived in Manchester, but decided that it would be nice to stay in a classy hotel even if it was only 10 minutes from my home. Upon arrival I was welcomed and instructed where to find my room, where I had to insert a card into the door to gain access. Upon opening the door I found the room spacious and fairly luxurious obviously some of the rooms were intended for people who live there for a long period of time. The en suite facilities were excellent and cleaned to a sparkling shine. A TV and radio in one corner, and a phone to order room service or contact reception nearby. Advantages: Local to me, warm and friendly.
Disadvantages: Can be untidy.

...The roxy isn't in the middle of nowhere infact it's on a very main road, near the motorway aswell, but its in the small town of Oldham, and is pretty much a local sort of cinema. Prices vary, it will go from about £3 in the morning to £4 at night. Inside food is reasonable, i buy a small popcorn, small slushy and that about £4.50. I would be lying if i didn't say i'd tried to get into a 15 when i was below the age, but i didn't get in they unlike some cinemas are very strict about it so theres no point trying! Queues can sometimes be quite long but the staff deal with people quickly so you aren't waiting long. There is 2 main huge screens which are used for the latest box office hits and smaller ones for other films. There is a bar and 2 shops which sell sweets, drinks, popcorn ect..
