A Grand Time In Gran Canaria After a rather over-worked summer, and a few of my own personal problems I needed a good long break where I could forget the alarm clock and completely relax. My normal preferred holiday destination is Magaluf/Majorca, but I felt like going somewhere different, and this time not just for a lively holiday, but a more scenic holiday.
All of my friends had been to Gran Canaria before and raved about it for ages, and when ... ...England to my arrival in Gran Canaria, the weathers hot breeze whispered to me a recent summers history of Gran Canaria all of its own.
Throughout my two week holiday the weather in the day time did not dip below 32c all holiday, and on the night time it was only a slightly cooler temperature of 26c. The breeze we did get was like being under a hairdryer that the Sahara desert happened to bless us with while we were there. I stayed at the Barcelona ...

...out the Hotel Fortina.
Gran Canaria had some apartments available through our timeshare Getaway breaks at very reasonable prices, so we decided to check it out as we had never been to the Canary Islands. The apart/hotel was called the Airtours Beach Club Hotel at San Agustin, which was in the south of the island east of Maspalomas.
Gran Canaria lies about 186 miles west of the coast of Morocco. There are 7 islands in the archipelago, it is the ... ...The Atlantic Ocean surrounds Gran Canaria and over the years the powerful waves have eroded the volcanic rocks and we looked forward to walking along the beach. But we were disappointed as access was limited. There was a locked gate from the pool gardens and we escaped and went down some very steep steps onto the beach, but to the east it was virtually impassable as there were high cliffs and I wasn’t dressed for rock climbing, and although we walked ...

...and Western provinces. GRAN CANARIA, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura being in the eastern province, and Teneriffe, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma being in the western province. The eastern islands have a hot dry African climate, whereas the western islands are wetter and greener. I have holidayed in Teneriffe once, La Palma once, and GRAN CANARIA four times, so will now try to tell you something about GRAN CANARIA.
It is just a 3 ½ to 4 hours flight ... ...Canaries live there.
GRAN CANARIA is quite often called the “miniature continent”, as it has such a variety of landscapes….golden beaches….desert areas…tropical forests…..volcanic mountains, and a large African population.
The central region of the island is mountainous…..La Cumbre, with the highest mountain reaching an altitude of almost 1919m (6300 ft.).
The highest peaks can be snow capped in the winter. Banana and coffee plantations can be ...

...the public transport system in Gran Canaria is reliable, cheap, clean and crowded. It is possible to catch a bus from resorts to most tourist attractions and from the airport to most resorts. This coupled with the cheapness of taxi's makes hiring a car an expensive waste of money unless you want to get somewhere off the beaten track.

I can only comment on these in the region around Puerto Rico.
There is a regular glass bottomed ferry ... ...passengers. The ferry has an open upper deck and an enclosed lower deck with a large square viewing area that allows you to look into the sea under the boat. The ferry is equipped with a bar and toilets. No smoking is allowed.
From the ferry you get a wonderful view of the spectacular volcanic coastline.
The journey to Puerto Rico from Arguinegan takes about 15 minutes. and from Puerto Rico to Mogan also about 15 minutes.
If you take the full ...

First time in Gran Canaria - first time in Puerto Rico.
Can't wait to go back. Better than the best expectations I ever had. Where Is it?
Puerto Rico is on the Canary Island of Gran Canaria. It is the sunniest city on the Island, if it's a tan you want - go here! Their language is Spanish but we didn't really know any at all and got on fine as English is widely spoke. The weather
It was really really warm every day we went, the day we went to ... ...is. The weather in Gran Canaria is said to be nice nearly all year around. Sometimes cloudy, but still warm. Airport / Flight
4 friends and I flew from Newcastle airport to Las Palmas airport in mid May 2005. Newcastle airport was easy to find, had shops, a bar, newsagents, an arcade and departure lounge. The check in process was easy so what more can you ask for? Flew with Thomson, easy flight, ahead of schedule brilliant! It took us about 4 hrs ...

Advantages: You can get there by car Disadvantages: Still at the mercy of the British weather I'm afraid
...Thinking of going abroad this year? Think again.
I've been to many places around the world in my short lifetime; Turkey, France, Spain, the US, GranCanaria, they're all great places to go to, but all have one thing in common, too many tourists. People already know about the romance of Paris, the nightlife of Benidorn, but we're all overlooking a place just as good, a place within driving distance of any English being, Cornwall.
I've been to a little known Cornish town called Hayle about eight times, and every time I go, I come back with great memories. Hayle doesn't hold the brandished English stereotype of sewage ridden seas and bright flashing lights from nightclubs at dusk. It's a place of peace and tranquility, coupled with superb weather in the height of summer. It has over a mile of soft Golden sandy beach lapped up...

...Just want to give as much info in a total package about Tenerife.
I have done the Portugal, Spain Mainland, Yugoslavia, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, GranCanaria, Lanzarotte thing, but to be honest have settled every year for Tenerife.
I have three kids and it basicaly suits without forking out money on trying a different experience.
There are plenty of flights available to the island leaving mainly Fridays and have never suffered any issues getting there.
The Reina Sophia Airport is around a 30 minuite drive from Los Americas where you will witness some of the finest Hotels imaginable.
Yes.......and that is exactly what i said, some of the 5* hotels take some beating.
Usually, i opt to stay at one of the 4* hotels such as The Conquistador or Noelia Sur where i have stayed on numerous occasions and every time been a winner.
