This is a newly refurbished hotel directly on the beach at Cala Bona, with superb views, and very quiet, but with immediate access to local shops, bars etc.
The reception area is very attractive and the standard of fittings and finish extends throughout all public areas and guest rooms. We booked a junior suite, which had the added advantage of a lounge area and double balcony, but a sneaky peek at a couple of the standard rooms showed that they were of a similar high standard, with stone bathroom tiles, flat screen TV's and the latest minimalist decor. We booked half board at a very reasonable supplement of £10 each per night, and were delighted with this choice. The classy restaurant was very well set up, with great sea views, and with excellent service from Miguel, Sissi and Tamara, and a superb selection of food, from traditional British, to Spanish, and including international theme nights. The buffet service meant that we could choose exactly the dishes, portions and combinations that we wanted. The small size of the hotel meant that this was nothing like the dreaded buffet experience in larger establishments - there were probably only some 25 tables, all beautifully set out with white linen cloths and elegant cutlery - even for breakfast.
Evenings were very quiet, but relaxed, with friendly and efficient bar service, and again, the great views. Cala Bona is a relatively quiet resort, but with a more lively harbour area, with a large number of boat trips available, and a wide range of bars/restaurants. Although we always used the hotel for dinner, we had an excellent light lunch in a number of places, including Thalassa, and Janet and John's. Overall this was a superb holiday, largely due to the excellence of the Gran Sol hotel.
