I visited this hotel in July 2006 for two weeks with my boyfriend, we hadn't been long haul before so this was very new for us. We chose the North side of Dominican Republic as it was cheaper and we liked the look of the Gran Ventana as it had good ratings in the Thomson brochure and had a large pool and it was near the beach.
The hotel was really nice the rooms where a bit dated but other than that the rooms were very spacious with two double beds and most rooms either looked over the pool or the sea, we looked over the pool and it was a nice view.
The food was a buffet and this was nice, they also had thre a la carete resturants that you could go to, you have to book up early for these though, the italian was really nice we both enjoyed that, the octupose was nice too they did fish and meat and that was nice but very 5 star posh like. There was also another a la carte but we couldn't go to that because the first week we couldn't get in and then i was ill the night we were going to go, typical!
The entertainment staff were very good worked all day and evening in the heat and never complained, they really wanted you to have a good time, especially Jimmy he was really funny. They first did the children's show and then did an entertainment one afterwards which usually finishes around 11pm, we then went to bed after that.
One thing to let you kno is that people reserve their sunbeds, as we went to bed quite early we don't know what time but my boyfriend had to get up at 5:30 and there were hardly any sunbeds left then, we went on the 10th july and the first week was fine but the second week was too busy,
To end this off we really enjoyed Dominican Republic apart from the beach so we have booked to go to the East side in November, I will let you know what that is like when i get back, lol!
