...on the entire trip was Grand Central Station. Dwarfed by many of New York's massive buildings, from the outside, it looks small and insignificant, if old and well constructed. When you pass through one of those small doors, it truly opens up. It doesnt look high from the outside, but inside it seems huge because it has been hollowed out. The floor of Grand Central Station is well below street level. This makes the Centre of the Station an awe-inspiring ... ...1920s flooring, the number of people on the floor bustling about was easily matched by the number of spectators, like myself, gazing at the scene. This attraction was not even thought about on my itenerary for New York, I was simply looking in as I passed by, but this building really hits home. It portrays the economic success earlier in the 20th Century that made New York what it is today, and this fine example of human attention to detail is a ...

Its a Moviestar! Review ofGrand Central Station, New Yorkby

Advantages: Antique Decor, The people, Shops Disadvantages: Can get very busy
I walked through Grand Central quite a few times on my visit to NYC, what a place, busy at all times of the day, the ending of one of my favourite movies is filmed here, Carlito\'s Way along with Superman and many many more.
The place is just so antique, I don,t think it ll have changed much the next time I go, the first time you walk your ll be in awe of the marble thats all around, I wish I could click my fingers and go there right now!
The Roosevelt ... ...station its full name, "The Grand Central Oyster bar & Restaurant" which first opened its doors way back in 1913, there are many choices on the menu ranging from raw seafood, lobster to oyster stews, also there are many beers from around the world on tap and bottled to cater for everybodys needs.
If you do not fancy any seafood or are just passing through, there are various fast food outlets spread about the low levels of the station.
So if your ...

Advantages: lots to do, easy to get around, plenty to see Disadvantages: loud at night, somewhat overwhelming (if that's a bad thing!?)
...to the top of the Empire State Building for breath-taking views; visited GrandCentralStation; joined the New York Public Library; saw the site of the World Trade Centre; took in a Broadway show and I would highly recommend "Legally Blonde", especially if you love the film; and went on the "Sex and the City" tour, another must see for fanatics of the show. We did as much as we could fit in to the four days we were there and still only saw a tiny part of the city.
Walking around the city is easy. Everything is easily accessible. 20 blocks is approximately 1 mile, so it's easy to keep track of how far you need to go with the streets numbered as they are. The regimented layout of the streets in NYC also prevents you from getting lost too easily, which is always helpful in a new city.
Many people say that four days is not long enough to explore...

Advantages: Loads to see and do, amazing architecture, great people, brilliant atmosphere Disadvantages: Not close enough to the UK!!
...If anyone has been considering going to New York then they should definitely bite the bullet and go. It is well worth the visit and the 7 hour flight. You have all the well known attractions such as Statue of Liberty, Time Square, Empire State, GrandCentralStation, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, great food and great shopping. But New York has so much more to offer. There is a multitude of galleries to trawl around for hours on end. The streets are brilliant to wonder around and just see New York life going on from day to day. I decided to walk from our Hotel near Time Square down to Liberty Island and have a look around that area. It was well worth the aching feet, I walked through a number of different neighbour hoods on the way seeing all walks of life, shops, restuarants and buildings. New York used to have a reputation...

Advantages: Once (or twice) in a lifetime experience. Disadvantages: Absolutely exhausting
...Ladyship is not an option so make sure you get on that last boat.
I could carry on for pages and pages about the many more sights that you can visit - The Chrysler Building, GrandCentralStation, The Brooklyn Bridge, New York City Zoo, Central Park, Greenwich Village, Chinatown etc..etc.. the list goes on and on, and for the movie-nerds among us New York is a sightseers paradise. Around every corner there is something with a film or TV reference - "Hey - there's the Ghostbusters building, Hey - that's where George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer argued in One Fine Day. That's where Chandler works, this is the street in Harlem where Bruce Willis wore THAT sandwich board, that building got blown up in Armageddon..etc"
As you can imagine, an anorak like me was in hog-heaven!
There are also numerous ways to view the sights, the most spectacular...

If you want to stay in Central New York then this is the hotel to book. It is actually IN Times Square! It's a huge modern hotel with over 45 floors so some of the views are great. There is a bar at the top which is a lovely place to have a drink,... more
The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more
Postmodernism, eh? It's a funny old bag of fish. Even the holier-than-thou critics don't quite seem to know what it's all about. They argue whether it's
a) a revolt against modernism,
b) a progression of modernism,
c) both of these and more
or d) more
