Grand Hermitage Hotel is typical mediterranean building in pastel colour. The lobby is medium in size and pleasantly decorated with a large seating area where guests can enjoy a drink from the bar or relax on the comfortable sofas. The hotel boasts an apen air swimming pool surrounded by mediterranean pine trees. This is a pleasant hotel ideally located with easy access to Sorrento town center. Elegant panoramic restaurant with air conditioning \\\Dining room for your dreams\\\", where the specialities of typical Italian cuisine are combined with the highest standards of impeccable service."
Advantages: Scenery, cultural. Disadvantages: Too hot.
...The best holiday I ever had was in Sorrento. It is a truly magical place that I will never forget and I hope to visit it again when I can afford it (it wasn't a cheap holiday). I stayed in a hotel called 'The Sorrento Palace' which was absolutely beautiful. The first time I walked into the hotel my mouth just fell open because I had never stayed anywhere as grand as that. It has a six-tier pool, several restaurants and bars, a gym, and a small shop. The bedrooms are air-conditioned which was nice because it was so hot while I was there. The most memorable parts of my stay here were: The food (four course meal every night); and the piano bar.
Sorrento town is beautiful. The locals are so friendly. There are two harbours which are both worth a visit. One is a little walk away from the town and this is where the locals have their fishing...

Advantages: Friendly staff and atmosphere, Clean and well managed, lovely food Disadvantages: could maybe have more evening entertainment at the bar
...the side of the hotel, but we didnt hear too much from the road, which was good. The pool was clean and well kept. We didnt have an issue with the 5 euro charge as you were provided with a towel which was changed if it got wet, and it also prevented, sunbed hogging, which was very good. Again the staff were very friendly and there was always a life guardaround the pool. Overall i would reccomend this hotel as a great destination for if staying in Sorrento. It is 1/2 mile from the main strip which is good, as you feel in the town, but not too noisy. Excellent, and will be booking again next year...

....
There is a train line which also resembles the tube with the amount of graffiti on it and is a 300metre walk from Tasso. We stayed away from it so cannot comment on the quality.
Taxis are numerous but can be expensive because of the traffic as the meter keeps moving even when you are not. For the ultimate tourist experience there are horse drawn carriages that leave from Tasso for a quick tour.
Local tours can be organized from the tourist office which is located in the centre of town.
Accommodation
Hotels and camp sites abound in Sorrento and there is something for every budget. We stayed in a hotel just outside of the main town in Sant Agnello (see review HotelGrand Parco del Sole) One point to consider when booking a hotel is the traffic noise in and around the centre of Sorrento particularly at night when everyone drives their cars and scooters...
