Grand Hotel Aminta, Sorrento

Advantages: Friendly staff and atmosphere, Clean and well managed, lovely food
Disadvantages: could maybe have more evening entertainment at the bar

...the side of the hotel, but we didnt hear too much from the road, which was good. The pool was clean and well kept. We didnt have an issue with the 5 euro charge as you were provided with a towel which was changed if it got wet, and it also prevented, sunbed hogging, which was very good. Again the staff were very friendly and there was always a life guardaround the pool. Overall i would reccomend this hotel as a great destination for if staying in Sorrento. It is 1/2 mile from the main strip which is good, as you feel in the town, but not too noisy. Excellent, and will be booking again next year... Read review

Disadvantages: You need to take a bus to get into Sorrento

...My husband and I went here for our honeymoon in August 2004. Our first impressions were that it was too grand for us! The entrance was lovely, all marble, with a light, airy bar, and the terrace outside the front of the hotel was large and well set out. Not one part of the entrance looked cheap. I wouldn't say this was a family hotel at all, more a hotel for couples. Our room was upgraded to a Honeymoon Suite without us knowing by the owners as we were on honeymoon (we hadn't requested a honeymoon suite with the travel agent as it was out of our price range and we were not charged extra for this privilage) and we were given a bowl of fresh fruit and a bottle of sparkling wine on arrival, which was lovely. The suite was on the top floor with a small terrace at the front. The views were just beautiful - right outside our room... Read review

...As anyone who has read my early reviews knows- I love Italy! I've been going there now for the past ten years with my parents, and for the first time last year I made my own way there with the boyfriend for a nice Italian holiday. The Grand Hotel Excelsior was my residence for numerous weeks holiday, and it certainly not one for the faint hearted! In the Thompson guide book it is described as 'quaint' which to put it politely is rather an understatement. One thing that can be said for it is it is completely oozing with Italian charm.
